    Hint of Ammonia?

Sound like it's a bit of a mystery generally! I've never got it with an English or balkan blends. It's only been with the aforementioned 2. The navy flake I basically smoked straight out of the tin, but I dried the petersons for some time as I've heard it can be a bit wet. But it would make...

    Hint of Ammonia?

OK, good to know. Thanks, its an 03 xjr1300

    Hint of Ammonia?

I'm openly new to pipe smoking, having only started a few months ago. In that time I've been mostly smoking English and Balkan blends, and enjoying them very much. Recently been dabbling in some light aromatics and Virginias though for variation. Very recently I've purchased some peterson's...

    Maximum Flavour, Minimum Nicotine?

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm going to head down to my local tobacco shop tomorrow with some suggestions ?

    Maximum Flavour, Minimum Nicotine?

Title edited for capitalization. Rule 9. -jpm On the hunt for a blend with the absolute maximum flavour but with low nicotine content? I like English and Balkan blends, which I've noticed on the whole seem quite low in the nicotine department if chosen right (latakia and black Cavendish being...

    Throw out Disgusting Tobacco?

I'd bin it personally. You're probably more likely going to waste other good tobaccos etc trying to fix it then just getting rid. Unless of course you know another pipe smoker locally to you who may like it.

    English Blend for Beginners

I'd like to recommend solani white & black 763. It's not quite a full English or Balkan but it's definitely in that ballpark. Recommending as it's very smooth, lots of flavour and low nicotine due to the Latakia and Cavendish. Its my favourite at the moment. Lovely and smooth, creamy...

    Aromatics 101

What's becoming more obvious now to me talking to you all is there's a reason why they are called aromatic tobaccos and not flavoured tobaccos.

    Aromatics 101

Like I said I don't find them unpleasant, just haven't found one to do what it purports to do yet. I've let them dry and I've smoked them slow and the advertised 'taste' is seemingly incredibly subtle for my palate. Too subtle to get excited about. But, again perhaps I'm just expecting too...

    Aromatics 101

Its more that I'm curious as to the abundance of aromatics, which implies that many must enjoy them, which implies some must surely be enjoyable to me. Or not and I'm just a English /Balkan blend kinda guy.

How to Best use my Pipe Budget?

This is quite literally (minus a few aspects) my experience. i can attest its a good route in. I now have 2 new Briars (Inc a 673), 2 estate briars and 2 cobs. I'd go for the savinelli and a cob to rotate.

Hello and welcome from England and sometimes from Périgueux

    Tongue and Tasting

Total beginner here too, but what I've found works for me is sipping, letting the smoke waft up over my nose as it leaves my mouth. Also allowing a little air in beside the pipe during the sip. Plus not letting it burn too hot, that was a revelation. Its not a pipe, but relavent I think...

    Aromatics 101

Thankyou all. Some great leads and great help too. I think it's a combination of an underdeveloped tobacco palate and over expectations in regards to the flavour. I think because they are recommended to beginners (my tobacco shop tried to start me on cherry vanilla) I assumed they would be...

Do you have any blends that you could recommend? I'm thinking perhaps those I've tried are just too subtle...?
