Love the FVF, would smoke it in my sleep if I could :-)

As with all SG flake you really...really gotta dry her out, otherwise
a muted smoke you will get....do or do not there is no try

If you have a good B&M,talk to the guys who work there.
My own recommendations would be Peterson's Old Dublin for an English - it is my go-to English. MacBaren HH Vintage Syrian is another good one to try.
Virginias - Rattray Hal o' the Wynd, or a McClelland. Have to smoke these slowly - sip 'em.

FVF is in a class all it's own in my opinion. I love the stuff but I do find it to be a bit finicky. There is a sweet spot when it comes to drying time that, if achieved, provides a very one sided but delicious kind of roasted coffee, dark chocolate and caramelized brown sugar flavour. I find it to be best when on the dry side and tightly packed. I like both fully rubbed and fold and stuff. Always smoke in slow easy sips. Fully rubbed makes for a very good DGT.

For me, I love the stuff. It is a real nice tobacco. If tomorrow it vanished, I would be a bit more discerning as to when I smoked what I have but it would not be an earth shattering blow. There are a lot of good tobacco's out there. Don't get all worked up over something you're not even sure if you like. You can't miss what you never had right? You want a real good virginia that is not SG FVF? Give Rattray's Hal O' the Wynd a shot. This is a damn good virginia as well. One of these days while you're placing an order you'll do the standard FVF check and see that some is in stock. Add it to the order and give it a shot. Till then, I wouldn't worry too much about it. There are others out there.

And FVF is not all that super elusive. Of course the big boy E Tellers are usually out but if you put in some google time mixed in with some phone time making calls to the shops that don't have sites you'll find that there are plenty of places with tins of the stuff on shelves.

You can also sign up for the mailing list at Iwan Ries and they will E Mail you when it comes in stock. There are a lot of people that do this though so you'd have to be quick but at least you'd get the heads up.

Don't sweat it bro, it's only tobacco. There are others. Life goes on.

Is SG's Full Virginia Flake is good as everyone seems to think it is? Is it equal to Dunhill Flake? I would try it myself, but just can't seem to find anybody who has it in stock. I guess I have kind of given up and was just asking the groups thoughts. Anything comparable...or better that is easily available? Thanks.

An excellent start is at the sister site Luxury Tobacco Reviews, where you can peruse blends according to genre, which I find very handy. A great tip for any review site is to find someone who reviewed a tobacco you know you like, and check out what other tobaccos they've reviewed and liked as well. The same goes for checking out the "What are you smoking..." monthly threads on this forum. And don't be afraid to just try something based on the tin description or a whim--the journey is its own reward, and you can often be pleasantly surprised.
