I have been mixing up some baccy of late and would like 5 people to try it out on my final product. It is sweet, fruity and full bodied. I am calling it Halfling's Leaf. I was thinking of Hornblower's Leaf, but I like the latter better, and no, it is not a rip-off of Hobbit's Weed, I just like Tolkien.

I am tweaking it this week and should be able to send out beginning of next week.

So, if you wish to try, add your name here so everyone knows when 5 are done, and then PM me with your USPS details and I will shoot you some. I would expect a review, good or bad, so all can hear.

Is SG's Full Virginia Flake is good as everyone seems to think it is? Is it equal to Dunhill Flake? I would try it myself, but just can't seem to find anybody who has it in stock. I guess I have kind of given up and was just asking the groups thoughts. Anything comparable...or better that is easily available? Thanks.

So having access to a very well stocked b&m here in Houston, and one that features many of their own blends (good ones too!), I have only been heavily exposed to these tobaccos for the most part. I have purchased a tin of davidoff english mixture and a good deal of penzance, both of which I enjoy immensely. Lately my tastes have been moving away from aromatics and funny flavors and I am starting to want to explore tinned or branded tobaccos, but don't know where to start! Could anyone make some recommendations as to some good staples in this area?

So the wife and I made some forward movement in being more cool with me smoking pipes. She requests that I get tobaccos that smell good on me? I was confused by that and she said when I come inside after I smoke the lingering sent on my clothes isn't a desireable sent. So, I am asking for the assistance of you guys on her request.

Can you send samples or know of some good tobaccos that have a good lingering sent so she can be more accepting of it. I like aeros and english and me as the smoker can't really smell the after sent on my clothes. Hey ask your significant other what smells the best on you after you smoke too. Their input could be helpfull. Thanks.

I am looking for a low nic, latakia blend that is not heavy on the latakia. I use to think the latakia gave me headaches and have come to realize that nicotine is the culprit--or so I now think. From what I read I should also be looking for one with a lot of VA that is air cured and not much if any burley. Any suggestions on a bulk blend?

A post in another thread got us started on this. One poster suggested either the Sopwith Camel or the SPAD VIII.

It's not the greatest drawing on the tin. Struts and under carriage look a lot like a Camel; vertical stabilizer and placement of upper wing look more like a SPAD.

But I think it's actually a stylized Hawker Fury.

Take a look at this VINTAGE TIN . Note the reference to the Hawker.

And look at these images of a Hawker Fury and note the streamlined cowling.

Anyone know for certain?

Also, anyone know if the blend actually has any provenance back to the RFC?

Its almost ready fellas. I got about a week of drying left and my batch of samples will be ready to go out. I already have several of you guys expecting it(and thanks for the samples from you). I had a small issue with the drying because I used real honey for the best taste i could get. I took a sample i dried out with a hair dryer to my B&M and he likes it. He said,"the initial light is very flavorful and it has a nice smooth draw. If I was not under contract with Peter Tewksburry I would buy from you." It made me proud to hear that. I have about 15 ounces of this blend and once the sample reviews are posted you can PM me to get yours too. I may consider trades of tobacco and pipes(if you got a nice sitter), PM me to work out details.

Thanks for the support fellas.

I am not sure if this would be the correct Forum section but...

I have been playing with blending tobaccos for friends and for samples, and was wondering if this could be my calling. Everything I have made has been pretty good. Some have even said they would pay money to make it their regular smoke.

So, how would one get into the industry? What cind of liscensing would be needed? How would you market your product and get known? And most important can you make a living doing this, starting on your own rather than going through a shop or company?

I am the little man holding down a full time job and a family. I hate my job(who doesn't)and want to do what I love to do and I want to get paid doing it(who wouldn't want that). I want to make the change and am willing to do what ever it takes, but can't let the family hang in the wind. Can I get some advise, thought, grants to get started?

P.S.- I have been doing a lot of thinking and its time for a change in my life.

If you had to pick 4 or 5 blends from Boswell's, what would they be and why? I will be stopping in next week while in the area for work and intend to pick up a few ounces to try out. I have been going to Chambersburg once a week for about 4 years and have never stepped foot in their door! But now that I am back to smoking and serious about it, I have been trying to experience as many house blends from my local B&M's.

*Edit* - Moved to Pipe Tobacco Discussion since this is more of a question about their blends rather than a review of them. -Jason

Recently I've started to get pretty into Mac Baren tobaccos. I got a tin of Black Ambrosia about a year ago, and after getting into Peterson blends it kind of got lost in storage. Within the last few weeks though I've picked up and rather enjoyed Vanilla Cream and 7 Seas Royal Blend. The Vanilla Cream is my favourite vanilla blend yet. Not too overpowering for me. I want to try it in the flake form though. Tonight I had my first bowl of 7 Seas Royal Blend. It was really good. It lit and burned very well and the casing was noticed pretty well also. I mostly tasted vanilla with some maple syrup or caramel. A very good blend. I still have to have a bowl of Cherry Ambrosia which I got today as well. I love these Mac Baren blends because they're good aromatics and most of them are only $15 for a 100 gram tin at the B&M I frequent. You can't beat that much tobacco for that price as far as tins go. What Mac blends have you smoked and what are your thoughts?

I have the luxury twist, which I absolutely love. The Cavendish pressed Virgina provides a nice sweetness without the unbearable residue of some aros. How do the flavor profiles of both LNF and BF compare to this? Specifically, how pronounced is the perique in the LNF (I'm not crazy about flakes that are perique-heavy)? And does the Cavendish center of the BF result in a flavor similar to the LT?

Thanks for your help!

And I gotta say that I didn't think I was going to like it from the tin note. Not a big fan of that. It was pleasant, but it was just too..."rich" I guess is the right word. Loaded up the pipe (Grabow Freehand) and went to town with it. The first third of the bowl was about what I was expecting from the tin note and I really wasn't enjoying it too much. But then it all changed. The last two thirds were just fantastic. I do have to say though that I'm definitely feeling the nic from it and I'm not enjoying that part too much right now. Probably need to go a little slower next time haha.

I just ordered the following:

Cumberland: A robust blend of American tobaccos, featuring a rare and exquisite aged Kentucky dark-fired tobacco, beautifully complimenting the variety of Virginias and the pinch of Louisiana Perique. Sip slowly, and enjoy the lingering notes of its harmonious symphony of flavors. From the Original Series.

Stratford: Virginias and perique, enticing, nuanced and delicately sweet. The interplay of sugar and spice will delight the lover of this time-honored combination. Sip the smoke slowly to extract the greatest enjoyment! From the Classic Collection.

from glpease.com

Cumberland led me in because of the inclusion of this rare and especially good dark-fired Kentucky, and the fact that is comprised of only American tobaccos, which I thought would be interesting.

I chose Stratford because I don't think I've tried a Perique blend yet, or at least not one with Perique being the main focus of the blend.

At the risk of getting slightly off topic I was going to purchase (but probably will still soon) MacBaren HH Acadian Perique to try out a Perique-heavy blend.

Anyhow, if anyone can say "Those are good" or "those did not agree with me" that'd be great, and please do discuss GL Pease's blends so we can all understand them a little better.

Well all the hype iv'e seen regarding Penzance, a member on here sent me some to try as a trade. Thank you Zanthal! While i find Penzance ok, i just am missing the "Wonderful Greatness" of it. Is it truly that great, or is it more the idea of smoking this much sought after fine blend. Understand please that i am not dissing Penzance, i am just after many people's opinions. That is, afterall, what we are here for.

There are blends that are sold out everywhere and the list contains the usual suspects...Penzance, Squadron Leader, etc. Butera is the blender for the Esoterica line and Penzance is all the rage and sold out most everywhere with the exception of the odd B&M. Butera also makes Pelican, another Lat blend that is sold out. And then there is much of the Sam Gawith line including Squadron Leader which is sold out. I want to get Penzance in bulk when it comes around and try out Squadron Leader and Pelican. What blends are sold out that you guys are waiting for?

For me, I'm enjoying several of Uhle's burley blends in the AM. Crushed While Burley, Blend 300, and Blend 00 are all outstanding as far as Burely's go. In the evening: a rubbed Virginia flake (Sillem's Mayor 1814 is what I'm smoking now) with a little cavendish. I probably need to buy a fair amount of PS Luxury Twist Flake.

Just got my bag of pipeinhand's personal blend called Halfling's leaf. Gonna try it in the Meer today. Pouch note-wise, it smells great and I think this is going to be a cool experience. Will he be up there with Mr. Pease and Mr. Ouelette soon? One can only wait and see. Or wait and smoke, that is.
