Does anyone else enjoy 5 Brothers as much as I do? I know it's strong, exceedingly strong. But I really love it with my morning coffee, really gets me going. Anyone else feel the same way?

Yup. I'm a fan too! It's kinda rugged for me, but it's got a taste that I don't get tired of. I guess that's because it isn't complex, which is probably also the reason folks don't talk about it too much. I think there's a few more guys on the site who smoke it. Everyone should keep it in mind as a potential coffee-break smoke because of its nicotine punch: a small, quick bowl can sustain you for quite a while.

Cortezattic, I think you nailed it. Its simple and strong. Nothing more to say, I guess. I don't know if you have tried it but, C&D's-Old Joe Kranz also packs a nice nicotine punch when you need it and it's a much more complex blend.

Yes, I had OJK and I think you're spot-on with the description. But even OJK is a bit much for me, and I settled-in with his kid brother, C&D's Haunted Bookshop. Same general character and complexity, but more wussy-appeal. BTW, if you have a pipe that needs to be cleared of aromatic residuals, OJK will evict the ghosts lickety-split.

I'll have to give them both a try, I loves 'baccy that packs a punch. I'm looking for a blend that will eliminate me wanting to dip in between smokes.

Sapo, I will admit it. I am a nicotine fiend. I used to dip Copenhagen snuff etc... OJK or 5 Brothers will knockout any craving you may have.

I have never tried it, but I am going to have to add it to the list because it sounds pretty interesting.

Bob, It looks like dried grass and feels like sawdust, but it is wonderful.

Back when I lived in Ohio that was the smoke of the old Amish guys. Nice folks by the way. Of course I HAD to try it. It's amazingly good!

Of Five Brothers I'm fond of quoting Rooster Cogburn (True Grit), "Gen-u-wine double-rectified bust head."

5 Brothers has gotten kind of popular with some people in the RYO crowd. That may explain why it's so hard to find.

Dudley your dead on.Here's why. RYO tobacco tax is increased from $1.0969 per pound (like pipe tobacco) to $24.62 per pound, a 2,400% increase. The $24.62 per pound tax on RYO represents an assumption that a pound of RYO makes about 24 packs of cigaretttes at $1.00 per pack.

There was a reviewer on TobaccoReviews.com who referred to 5 Brothers as the tobacco they smoked back in the day when men were men, and sheep were terrified! LOL

Here is what a few say about it:

"Five Brothers tobacco is one of the more unusual tobaccos available, extremely full-bodied, ultra-high nicotine content. A must for those who like living on the dangerous side." 4noggins

"Really a strong nicotine kick in this very simple blend. Not to be smoked on an empty stomach, best in small bowls. (Corn cobs are a perfect mate). Plain burley flavor with no additives (IMHO). Recommended for veteran smokers, or people trying to kick cigarettes." marscigars

I think I know why it "packs a punch" it is probably shredded "Red Man" chewing tobacco...

I was given a pouch with a pipe I bought awhile back. I opened the pouch and looked in. "Ah, ribbon cut. Reminds me of cigarette tobacco." I thought. It was a little dry to the touch. I grabbed a cob, stuffed it a little loosly and put match to weed. Two puffs later, I let the weed go out, emptied the cob and gave the "stuff" to my wife to give to a young man who works part time at our local grocery store. It was harsh and the flavor reminded me of when I was nine years old and tried to smoke rolled corn husks. Not Good. The nicotine wasn't a factor. I regularly smoke Black Irish Twist, Black XX, University Flake and FVF.

I've always been crazy but it's kept me from going insane.

Yeah it's got a "medicine" thing going on. I appreciate the old school approach though. It's just some good old high test tobacco from a good old boy family in KY. Nothing fancy but if you want a kick in the seat of your pants and have a cob pipe or a pack of rolling papers they got you covered.

I won't see any communication directed to me here. I'm no longer active at this forum.
