Don Pepin Garcia Serie JJ “Little Robusto” Limited Edition by on Sat, 28 Jan 2012 17:20:23 +0000:
As one of the most premier cigar makers of the day, Don Pepin credits his Series JJ line as the finest of all of his blends. It is spicy and robust with a rich medium to full body. “Little Robusto” was the affectionate nickname Jerry Cruz gave his son JJ. Sadly, JJ passed away on November 2, 2007 from SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) while at daycare when he was just 3.5 months old. When JJ was born, the first cigar Jerry smoked to celebrate his birth was the Don Pepin Garcia Series JJ. A cigar blended by father (Jose Pepin Garcia) and son (Jaime Garcia) team at My Father Cigars. Even though JJ isn’t with us anymore, Jerry still celebrates his birthday. Every July 22nd, he lights up a Series JJ just like he did when he was born. Don (Jose) Pepin Garcia is arguably making the best cigars on the market. His secret family recipe for blending and fermentation has been handed down generation to generation since his family’s beginnings in old Cuba. Today Pepin is using this time honored process to make cigars which many aficionados consider to very reminiscent of the best Cuban cigars available today. [...]
November’s Spotlight Cigar — Berger & Argenti Entubar by on Tue, 01 Nov 2011 20:29:30 +0000:
Three iconic cigar manufacturers have teamed up to create a truly unique smoking experience. Don Kiki Berger, Albert and Michael Argenti have released their flagship blend, Entubar. Entubar is a tribute to the time-honored Cuban cigar making technique of the same name. At first glance, you’ll notice a half inch twisted filler protruding from the foot of the cigar. The warning label attached to the foot of the cigar states to thoroughly light the entire foot including the protrusion of Nicaraguan Ligero that runs the length of the cigar. The Entubar is beautifully wrapped with a flawless Ecuadorian Connecticut-seed Desflorado wrapper, bound together by an aged Nicaraguan binder and filled with a perfectly balanced blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobacco. Desflorado tobacco is some of the best and most expensive available anywhere. It requires constant vigilance and when the buds are ready to flower they are cut off, giving the tobacco an extra rich and smooth taste. The first half of the cigar features a satisfying and unique profile of fresh grains, cream, roasted nuts and bell pepper spice. The second half kicks it up on the spice note and new flavors emerge from the woodwork reminiscent of bitter coffee [...]
Alec Bradley Fine & Rare by on Wed, 26 Oct 2011 19:08:51 +0000:
In August of 2010, a small team of rollers at the Raices Cubanas factory in Honduras sat down at their tables and produced a secret cigar with 10 different tobaccos in the overall blend. They didn’t know it at the time, but their handy work was to become Fine & Rare,an extremely limited offering from Alec Bradley. According to Alec Bradley’s owner, Alan Rubin, this is the only cigar on the market with a 10-tobacco blend. It consists of a Honduran wrapper from the Trojes farm, dual Honduran and Nicaraguan binders and secret filler blend. Available in boxes of 10, Fine & Rare is a 6 x 52 Toro. Only 1,111 boxes of Fine & Rare will be produced with each numbered cigar bearing the signatures of Rubin and company vice president Ralph Montero, as well as the project manager, roller and buncher. As the top Alec Bradley seller in the Annapolis area, Chesapeake Cigar will receive a very limited supply of these highly limited cigars, which are scheduled to be in the shop on 11/11/11. Availability will depend on the total received and will be allocated first to locker holders and then to the general public. No pre-orders will [...]
