I prefer tobacco on the dryer side and will only risk rehydration if I have several ounces; enough to absorb moisture. When to dump the ash and light up again?
If you're smoking burning ash, you'll know it. I just turn the pipe over and let gravity do its work. I might occasionally, gently scrape some white ash off but I don't tap the bottom. Also, I want to enjoy the last third of the smoke but I'll rarely relight if it's gone out then. It's...- DrHoo
