A DTM/Orlik Question for Those in the Know

I consider cigar smokers, like wine snobs, to be the type that kept PT Barnum employed. I enjoy both, but the high priced stuff, while good, is meant to serve the needs of the 1% only. Middle and upper class buyers are just letting vanity get in the way of sanity, by horning in. Pipe tobacco...

Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapses.

I'm a civil engineer, and have help design dolpins and piers for vessel impact. Those dolphins appear to be too far away from the pier to be useful. There is a lot of old infrastructure that has been underdesigned. This appears to be one of those cases.

What are You Watching? [2024] Please Rate 1-5

3 Body Problem - Netflix - 1/5 So frustrating how the hacks that destroyed GoT have been given permission to destroy another great book series. The source material is so original and unique, and the writers have turned it into a love triangle melodrama that should be on the CW network. It's a...

    A Sherry Evening

PXs are the most approachable for neophytes. Another fortified wine that parallels Sherry is Madeira. I generally prefer it if I'm buying the cheaper bottles. It also stores really well once opened, unlike Fino and Manzanillo that should be used up within a day or two. Madiera was also the...

    Tools Trifecta Thread

Might be fun, might not, but thought I would post a photo of my currently favorite pipe, favorite source of fire, and favorite tamper. It's taken me a few years to figure out what I like, and this seems to be it. Ardor Meteora, IM Corona Pipemaster, and a modest 8Deco tamp. What's yours?

The Four Hundred Marxman Pipe Owner's Thread

It has to be said. The emperor has no clothes. What a waste of good briar. Vanity has no bounds of turning natural beauty and wonder into trash. A pox on Marxman! It's so obvious he hated natural (dare I say it, divine) beauty and wanted to scar it, twist it, ruin it, rape it, to stoke...

A Round of Appaulse- Netflix - 4.5/5 A surreal Turkish series. Pretty original and clever. Normally I find most of the foreign content on Netflix (exception being the German content in general, and a few French series/films) to be derivative and uninspired. This was different. A existential...

    On the Importance of Beauty

I don't see that turning into a swan, unless we are talking about a swan that found its way through a jet engine or cockpit window. That is truly an exceptionally ugly pipe. As for the first pipe, it reminds me of pre-torn jeans. I appears there was a lack of hands present in the vicinity of...

Help Me Choose a Blend for the Redwoods

They're brick pavers, not stone. Tomayto, tomahto.

Help Me Choose a Blend for the Redwoods

I'm just a State of Jefferson agitator 😗. That collision probably happened on the Lincoln Highway. There is still a segment of the Lincoln Highway north of me that still has the original cobblestone pavers.

Help Me Choose a Blend for the Redwoods

Thanks guys, yes I'm overthinking it. Do greatly appreciate the responses though. I have previously been to Cresent Beach / Jedediah Smith SP and did the Boy Scout and Grove of the Titans trails. It was raining when we did Boy Scout and the trail was deserted. One of those cases where you...

Help Me Choose a Blend for the Redwoods

Taking a family trip to real northern California (the bay area is fake northern California ;) ) in a few weeks, and I am struggling to choose a blend or two to take with me. If you been, you know the smell of the redwood forests, and I am trying to pick something that will pair well with the...

What are You Watching? [2024] Please Rate 1-5

Just finished Boy Swallows Universe. It gets dark, but it's not a wallow in human misery type of show (a genre I despise, i.e., type of dreck Von Trier, Inarritu, Mendes, etc. turn out). The show is worth sticking it out, even if the end is a bit far fetched. Great Aussie period piece too.

What are You Watching? [2024] Please Rate 1-5

Great series. The only flaw was modern sensibility making Bolshevics into martyrs instead of monsters in the series. If you haven't seen it, check out The Defeated on Netflix, same quality of period drama in Berlin, on the other side of WWII. And, if you want a great post cold war Berlin...

Offensively High Resale Prices On Unicorn Blends

Wholesaling and retailing is not the same as flipping. The former is necessary evil to allow commerce to be orderly on a large scale. One could argue drop shipping is flipping, but the manufacturer dictates who is the point of contact and sets the profit the drop shipper is getting. The...
