    The Most Disappointing Tobacco

Sounds hopeful, think it lacked depth for me, but it's jarred in my cellar and I will return to it after some aging, will be interesting to see for sure.

    The Most Disappointing Tobacco

Newminster no 400 Superior Navy Flake. On the first impression I loved it, I thought it would become my new favorite and ordered plenty to enjoy, but after a couple of bowls I realized just how bland and uninteresting it was.

On Smoking Slowly and the Benefits...

Hm, not sure I agree that you have to be a heavy smoker to get the basics down. ;) I am smoking with patience and quality, I think we all are, who have been doing this for many years. Some periods, I am an even an every smoker. But I also enjoy to keep tweeking my methods, I think pipe smoking...

On Smoking Slowly and the Benefits...

I have tried a lot of different packing, trying to keep it loose, but too loose is also not the best, it can go out because the tobacco is too disintegrated. Tamping will help to get the tobacco just tight enought. So yes, one must find a good balance here. I'm not an every day smoker, but been...

On Smoking Slowly and the Benefits...

Thank you sir for sharing this. I did not read through the whole thread, sorry if I repeat something. I am a virginia smoker, and I am always trying to smoke very slow, but I am the only pipe smoker I met so I can't really compare what is slow or not. : ) But I often find myself wanting to smoke...

Pipe Smoking: Should I be Concerned in Public ?

I also live in Scandinavia. I have a similar situation. I sometimes sit on the balcony with the pipe. We are allowed to smoke on the balcony, there is no law against it. But I actually try not to do so, out of respect of my neighbours. Honestly, I find it stressfull to know that I might disturb...

    Drying flake tobacco

And course: if you smoke in the evening, you can prepare the pipe in the morning. With some experimentation, you will know what amount of time works best for any particular flake you are smoking. But yeah, now we are already entering flake-patience territory. :)

    Drying flake tobacco

I think smoking a flake (at least if we are talking virginia flake, but perhaps less so with burley flake) needs some more attention and care. The packing in itself might be easy, but there is a bit of a learning curve in smoking it the best way, that might need some patience. If you want a more...

***What Are You Smoking, June 2023?***

7 1/2 years aged Dunhill Royal Yacht! I really disliked this tobacco when I first bought it. Back then, I called it by another name: the Royal Yuk. So into the cellar it went, never to be touched, until now. With several years of aging, I now love it. It has matured into an exquisite balance...

    Concern, Dental-wise, About Clenching

Try to get a bent pipe shape that rests comfortably on the jaw, that way you don't need to clench so hard. But when it comes to preventing dental problems I think a much more important thing is to avoid smoking too hot, because it might do harm to the gums in the long run. When you get older...

Bowl size: maximum ⌀ 0.70″. Recommendations?

Simple answer: I just like how it smokes with virginia flakes. Longer answer: There are several reasons. I already have enough pipes with larger chamber, and even if I love to sit all day sipping on a flake, a smaller chamber is sometimes what I prefer. But more essentially, it has to do with...

Bowl size: maximum ⌀ 0.70″. Recommendations?

Just to keep the thread open in case anyone might stumble in here... Feel welcome to post recommendations for filtered pipes (6 or 9 mm) with chamber: Ø 18 and less. Cheers!

What tobacco has the most dramatic change after cellaring?

Someone mentioned Silver Flake: I agree, very dramatic change after only a couple of years. The Kentucky matures into a totally smooth smoke.

What tobacco has the most dramatic change after cellaring?

I too find that Peterson Flake ages well. Recently got some new tins, and I get the impression that they now had time to let the tobacco sit a bit longer before tinned, compared to when PF was relatively new on the market. The aging had a dramatic effect on those earlier tins, a big difference...
