SOLD 1906 Barling’s Make Silver Capped - $450

This stunning 1906 Barling’s Make is worthy to be the jewel of someone’s Britwood collection. The nomenclature and hallmarks are legible, the army mount connection is solid, the stem with orific button is in fantastic shape and the silver rim is very tidy. Personally, I don’t want to sell this pipe but my family has bills to pay. If you look closely at the rim, you will see the remnants of hinges and a stopper which have been ground off. This work, combined with the reg # stamped on the side of the rim inform us that this pipe started its life as one of the quintessential Barling’s Motor Domes. There's no doubting that the missing dome would have upped this pipe's street cred (and price), but the reality is, without it, it will probably smoke better. Come and snag a white whale.

Overall Length: 5"
Bowl Height: 1.75"
Bowl Inner Diameter: .75"
Bowl Depth: 1.5"

SOLD 1911 Alfred Barling (John Brumfit) Tankard - $200

I have priced this pipe not to sell, but have included it just in case one you history buffs want to snap it up. This tankard has been a great burner with lovely grain playing off the cylindrical chamber shape. The stem has been professionally replaced with high grade German ebonite, and is historically accurate, I can even include the original stem if you wish. The rim isn’t the tidiest, but that has never worried me as I got this one to smoke not look at as I don’t really like the poker shape. However what makes this pipe special is the mounter’s marks: A.B for Alfred Barling. I am only aware of two other pipes with this hallmark, both are on the pipedia page.

1909 Ben Wade Cased Meer - $350

One of the most beautiful pipes I have owned, the colouring on this antique meer is just outstanding. The pipe is in excellent condition for her age, the Sheffield silver hallmarks are clear and the matching case looks almost new. This has been well looked after. The amber stem has a some wear near the button and is permanantly fixed to the shank – this could be as it was originally intended, however it is most likely due to tars built up around the bone tenon – though it is perfectly functional as is.

I am unsure as to who the W.B Best Make logo inside the case refers to, whether it is the Ben Wade tobacconist itself, or another Leed’s based tobacconist with similar initials. That said, I have seen other examples of antique cased BW meers with the same case insignia.

SOLD 1913 Ben Wade Army Mount - $125

It’s not every day you come across briar turned in Leeds prior to the Great War. This Ben Wade is a tough little pipe which has endured over a century of our bollocks, and is ready for to be lovingly abused by another generation. The Chester silver hallmarks are crisp, the army mount is solid, and the stem has a fantastic early slot bit. On the LH shank, I can just make out a pair of “ ”, indicating that the marquee and series name were worn off long ago. The rim has some wear from knocking, reaming and darkening. A fantastic addition to one’s historical collection, and regular rotation.

Overall Length: 4.6"
Bowl Height: 1.5"

Bowl Depth: 1.25"

SOLD Charatan’s Make Supreme Big Arse Pot - $200

Ok, so this pipe was way bigger than I realised and it has given me nightmares. Carved in the Rueban/Lane era (encirlced “£”) this Supreme lives up to its grading by exhibiting 360° straight grain around the bowl and birdseye on the rim. The lines almost remind me of the Danish school, where the curve in the shank’s taper and upward beveled rim soften the otherwise masculine nature of the pipe, but without making it too fancy. Stamping and CP stem logo are crisp, this pipe is in really good condition given its vintage. It has clearly been a burner and not a shelf queen, so there is some minor rim darkening and slips from reaming – chamber is still round though. These could be removed, but in my opinion that would be taking away from its beauty as is.

Overall Length: 6.85"
Bowl Height: 2"
Bowl Inner Diameter: .9"
Bowl Depth: 1.55"

SOLD Comoy’s Blue Riband Extraordinaire 424 - $125

A Pre-Cadogan Comoy’s from the cult classic Blue Riband line. The nomenclature on this pot is all legible, and the saddle stem has the 3 part C logo. Some really nice contrast and figure to the flame grain. This pipe has character - some rim darkening, light chatter on the stem, and a slight disruption to the shank/stem transition – but that’s what you get with a work horse.

Bowl Height: 1.85"
Bowl Inner Diameter: 1"
