    Disappointed with EMP

Late to this thread, but I'm surprised no one suggested Chelsea Morning as an alternative for EMP. It's been ages since I've smoked it, but I remember thinking that it was superior to EMP.

Who has Smoked Cornell and Diehl Anthology 1992-2022?

Just cracked open the tin and am smoking a first bowl out of a meer. For me, it was a bit wet out of the tin--I let it rest for about 15 minutes as it was moist and cool to the touch after I rubbed out a flake. Even with that, I had a number of relights. I really am enjoying the sweetness of the...

Coloring Progress Over Time/No of Bowls in one Meerschaum Pipe

This might be a silly question, but would a completely colored meerschaum lose its ability to provide a drier smoke, since the block's pores are now pretty well saturated and no longer as absorbent as a new pipe?

Why Switch from Cigarettes to Pipe?

there’s no doubt that cigarettes are the most dangerous and I appreciate your analysis of why that’s the case. I also agree that I would be wary of the “no additives” in AS makes it safer. It’s difficult I think to do studies on pipe smoking because there just aren’t that many of us. I think the...

    Cleaning Your Email

I find that a warm water flush and then a paper towel can really do wonder to keep those nasty emails at bay!

A Rumination on the Luxury of Smoking a Meerschaum Pipe

There's no way that AKB pipes to my knowledge are pressed meerschaum. I've got block meerschaum pipes that sometimes get some moisture in them because I haven't dried the tobacco that much--I do this depending on the blend because I find that drying some blends too much can reduce the flavor...

***What Are You Smoking, May 2022?***

I always liked Almería. We lived in Cadiz for about ten months probably 18 years ago or so. When it got hot….. it was hot. But better then being in Sevilla, that’s for sure!

Group Tasting of Ancient Velvet Pipe Tobacco

I had a chance to smoke both samples yesterday, and to me, they are, not surprisingly, a reversed image of each other. By that, I mean that what stood out for me in the 1920's Velvet was the dry, black walnut flavor of the burley. Pleasant, very easy smoking/burning in my cob, with a light...

    Reliable Soft Flame Pipe Lighters

I was being a little ironic there! I actually can’t say of yet, honestly, since the fuel hasn’t completely run out, so it might do something actually. For the price, it can’t hurt!

    Reliable Soft Flame Pipe Lighters

I can now say with certainty— using the rubber gasket on the zippo helps me keep the zippo fueled up for a week, whereas without, the fuel only lasts seven days. Happy to share the rubber gaskets with others!

Group Tasting of Ancient Velvet Pipe Tobacco

I received my package yesterday and I'm feeling the pressure already! Actually, my 85 year old dad is coming up to San Francisco this afternoon and I'm going to see if he's game to test it out with me. I'm feeling a bit like Indiana Jones when I even look at the tin that I'll be cracking open.

Consider Writing A Letter, I Mean Snail Mail

I can't more highly recommend the Musgrave Pencil Co. They are a family owned American company that's been in business for over 100 years. They manufacture their pencils in Tennessee. Try a box of the Tennessee Reds, make with red cedar that will bring you back to your childhood any time you...

    Reliable Soft Flame Pipe Lighters

I only use my zippo when I'm outdoors and it's a bit too breezy for my Kiribi. I open the lighter and wave it around for a second or two to dispel the odor and then light. After 2 seconds, I bring the lighter to my pipe and it works like a charm, with no discernible odor or taste.
