    Estervals and UPS

Whoah, that package looks enormous, I think these could fit in a box half as big? Good luck with that Celtic Talisman, I tried a sample once and found it vile.

    Cigars to Pipes...No Looking Back

Very true, that's what's keeping me from buying any appreciable number of cigars - it's expensive! A pipe bowl may cost $1-2 so chucking it is no big deal. Re OP: it's not, or it doesn't have to be either/or, both are good.

What are You Watching? [2024] Please Rate 1-5

Watching Ripley, after a slowish start it’s become captivating. Very well made too.

HU Janneman Flake is outstanding for my taste.

Want to Buy an Experience: McClelland Dark Star/St James Woods

Alright, I've contemplated making this post for a long time. I want to treat myself to an experience, a one-time thing. I am aware the offer price is ~15-30% lower than 4noggins prices today, so please don't point it out. Not intending to flip, trade or save. I'd like to buy a tin (50g) each...

UK Tobacco Ban On The Way

I thought you Scandies are excited about and crave more taxes ;)

    Current Latakia Production

Last thing I'd read was that essentially there's no Latakia tobacco produced in Cyprus for many years. What's done, apparently, is the tobacco is grown in Cyprus, then shipped to Turkey to get turned into Latakia, then shipped back to Cyprus to be packaged and exported as Cyprus Latakia. One...

What are You Watching? [2024] Please Rate 1-5

Finished “Fool me once”. Not bad, not great, 3-5. Very convoluted story which, again, gets resolved very fast in the end. Some less than plausible sequences.

I'm Bloody Livid: Amazon Refuse to Sell Me a Set of Kitchen Knives.

I am not a knife buff, but I know and like to keep knives sharp. One of the best knives we have at home was bought in a Sainsbury's in Birmingham ~25 years ago, and another was bought in IKEA again around Birmingham, ~20 years ago. These knives I took with me from the UK to Greece and now...

I'm Bloody Livid: Amazon Refuse to Sell Me a Set of Kitchen Knives.

True, but still light years better than the rest of the planet.

Does Smoking Change Taste of Food?

Not sure about piping because I am not a piper, when my nose pipes are blocked I certainly lose the sense of taste. Smoking a pipe has probably blunted my sense of taste over time, but nothing like cigarettes did.

    Aging and Cellaring Tobacco

As @sablebrush52 has said about a thousand times, ageing doesn't improve tobaccos, it changes them. I have had sublime aged tobacco, and others which were 10 times better right out the tin.

Jim's SPC Plum Pudding Special Reserve Robusto Review.

Thanks for the review Jim! I wondered if you consider pipe tobacco to be more nuanced overall than cigars, purely on the basis of pipe blends usually having more constituents and additives than cigars. This is not meant to be a "are pipes better than cigars" in the least! One can't really make...

    Cigar TAD 2024!

Got a few to take advantage of a 20% sale, and before they go extinct. Nice packaging from this shop too, it’s my first order but will get more.

    Honey Cured Pipes?!?

Yeah same here, I don't know what that crap they put in new Petersons is, but it was a gunky plastic mess which really did taste AWFUL. I reamed the pipe to bare wood and it was fine going forward. As to soaking the whole stummel in honey sounds like bullshit to me, won't do anything other...

    I Have An Interview

Eh, a lot less money at stake in academia, it's more about prestige. I don't believe there've been anywhere near the level of scandals in academia. Still, rotten people there too, they're supposed to be teachers and educators and most can't stand the idea of students or teaching and moan all day...

What are You Watching? [2024] Please Rate 1-5

3 Body Problem update: finished it last night, first five episodes are great: on point pacing, world building, story arc. We were glued to the screen. Last three episodes feel rushed, the pacing is totally out of whack, and the storyline becomes completely unrealistic (even if it is extreme...

    I Have An Interview

Good luck! Yes I can relate, i gave up on trying to make it in academia 10 years ago, turned over to the dark side of the private sector. You really need champions to both score a position and bring/get your own funding. Playing the game is probably more important than being a good scientist...
