  1. Q

    Briar Books Press

I'm sad to hear this as well. I have a number of his publications, including the Dunhill "About Smoke" catalogue and the Peterson book, amongst others. I'm a bibliophile and these books were a labour of love. Gary is a gentleman, bibliophile and pipe smoker - I can think of no higher compliment.

    Dunhill Black Briar Stain issue

I have only ever used the Dunhill Pipe Bowl Polish and then rub it off with a soft cloth. I have never used wax.

    Dunhill Black Briar Stain issue

Excellent comments. Thanks everyone for the help. Does the advice about not over-polishing (or polishing at all) also apply to the Dress finish?

    Dunhill Black Briar Stain issue

This is one of my most luxurious pipes - a Dunhill Black Briar 6103. These seems quite rare - I'm not sure how they differ to the Dress finish, but to my eyes the Black Briar is less jet black than the Dress finish - more of a very dark Bruyere. I love this pipe - it's big, it's black and it has...

    Askwith Commissioned Pipe.

Thanks everyone for the comments. The tenon is made of another material - it looks like a very strong, black plastic - very secure.

    Askwith Commissioned Pipe.

EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9) This is the first pipe I have ever commissioned, from Chris Askwith of Askwith Pipes. It was inspired by one I saw on his website and it has a briar stem with wonderful birds eye and lovely straight grain on the stem. Chris was a pleasure to deal...

    Peterson Irish Oak

This was one of the first pipe tobaccos I smoked, way back in the 90's.Thought it was OK then but I did not have much of a comparison. I agree that the nic hit is quite potent on this one and that's probably why I have not touched it in a while. I have 3 or 4 tins in storage so perhaps I will...

How Important is Nicotine to You (After Quitting Cigs)

I used to smoke 3 or 4 cigarettes a day for the nic fix and because I enjoyed the taste. When I smoke pipes it’s more about the flavour, relaxation and ritual. I like a gentle, background nic buzz from my pipes - nothing too heavy. When I want a quick nic fix I use my vape which is very...

    Hello from England

Thank you guys. Yes - the real addiction is the pipes more than the tobacco!

    Hello from England

London certainly has its consolations - the decent range of tobacconists being one! When you are next in London visit the basement of the Dunhill store at Bourdon House - best range of Dunhills in the UK.

    Hello from England

I live in London and Hertfordshire, Eaglesgift - (near Berkhamsted), so not a million miles from Hertford. Currently, I'm enduring the lockdown in Hertfordshire - it's a lot quieter than London ! If you need tips for hiding your pipes from your wife then I may be able to help!

    Hello from England

Hello I have been ghosting these pages for some time now in the manner of Condor or some other Lakeland tobacco, so I thought it time to say hello. I have been a pipe smoker, on and off, since my 20's and for some 25 years now. I have built up a large collection of pipes (and tobacco!). My...
