Who Puts his Pipes Away for Winter?

I smoke all year-round. Usually in my garage. Some Ohio winter days are very cold. I may skip a day or two if garage is below freezing. I've added insulation to garage so maybe won't need to skip any days.

    Changing Temps, Changing Blends

I smoke the same kinds of blends all seasons. I never found any blend to be better/worse based upon ambient temperature.

    Pipe Cleaners

Vauen and White Elephant. White Elephant has multiple kinds. Their cotton kind sheds a little which I don't like.

Does Pipe Smoking Reduce Stress and/or Blood Pressure?

One way to find out is to measure blood pressure before and after smoking a bowl. You would want to abstain from food, alcohol, caffeine, physical exertion, etc. just prior and during the test to avoid having those things influence your blood pressure.

What do You Enjoy While You Smoke?

    Drinking and listening to podcasts

    Anyone Smoked a "carburated" pipe?

When I was a teenager, I smoked a carburetor pipe but not with tobacco :)

    Tobacco Cellar app question

If I need an app, spreadsheet, lists, etc. then pipe smoking just went from enjoyment to too much work.

    School me on Propylene Glycol

Most threads about PG seem to drift to debates about safety. My dislike of PG is not about safety but about the adverse effects that it has on smoking: Difficulty drying tobacco Difficulty lighting tobacco Difficulty keeping tobacco lit Excess moisture in bowl and gurgling Harshness

    Cellaring Too Long?

They smell smokey because the tins are open? If yes, then you'll probably want to smoke them. If no, how do you smell anything with a sealed tin?

    Cellaring Too Long?

You'll probably get lots of responses like "it depends" which is what I would say. My experience is that Virginias age well while latakia blends loose flavor with time. However, I have some tins of Full Virginia Flake with 10+ years of age that aren't as good as newer tins of same blend.

    Brushing Teeth Burn After Smoking?

Try Biotene toothpaste. I have no tongue burning when brushing with Biotene. With other toothpastes, I experience some tongue irritation. It may be that many toothpastes have excessive amounts of artificial sweetners or that they have some other ingredient that reacts with the remnants of pipe...

Breaking in a New Pipe (without a bowl coating)

I agree with the recommendations to start with a Virginia. I wouldn't use a Latakia or flavored blend. My experience is that the uncoated briar absorbs and retains the flavor of the initial tobaccos that are smoked in it.

    Made my own burley blend

I frequently add Mac Baren Old Dark Fired to other blends. It boosts body, flavor, and nicotine. What proportions did you use for your mix?

    A fun experiment with tobacco

I experiment with mixing blends most of my smokes. I rarely smoke a single blend without mixing. However, I use known proportions so that if I like it then I can create it again. I have no interest in mystery blends.

    Propylene Glycol - Virginia Tobaccos

My understanding is that if you dry tobacco to a crisp then the water is gone but the PG remains.

    Propylene Glycol - Virginia Tobaccos

What kind of concern? Health, smoking quality, other? I think that most pipe tobacco has some PG in it. Some brands use too much in my opinion. When there is excessive PG, I find that the tobacco will not dry, is difficult to light, does not stay lit, produces excess moisture in the pipe, and...

    A New Sponsor - TINBIDS

Thanks for the explanation but I still don't understand. I assumed it worked like typical auctions where price is determined by the highest bid (not automatically). If it is a variation upon a typical auction, I would expect that the site would explain the variation in the terms or FAQ.

    A New Sponsor - TINBIDS

Some of the bid transactions are of type "Auto". I could not find anything on the site about that.

    Looking For English Blend Alternatives

I don't recommend C&D Pirate Kake. I ruined a new pipe with it. I like Latakia blends but it is excessive.
