    Saratoga NY Local Event

The Camacho Cigar people came to James & Sons in Saratoga NY. They rolled cigars and talked with people. I tried one of the their Maduro cigars and was disappointed. There was not a lot of flavor and the wrapper was fragile and started to unrolled and break apart. None-the-less it was fun to be...

    Two Cascadia blends.

After decade of smoking only two blends I have decided to experiment a little. A few days ago I received Cascadia's Open Water and their Campsite and now have smoked two bowls of each. Campsite is a pleasant blend and I think some people would describe it as a "morning smoke". It doesn't have...

    A fun experiment with tobacco

A friend of mine called me this weekend to come over for an experiment. He smokes four different tobaccos (two Virginias, a Latakia and a rum flavored Virginia) depending on mood. For the past six months he has been dumping any left over tobacco in his pouch into a mason jar. So he ended up with...

    The Summer Pipe

My tobacco remains the same but I find I gravitate to my smaller pipes when the weather gets warm.

An Old Pipe Suddenly Won't Keep an Ember.

Thanks to everybody. I ran a pressure test on the pipe using soapy water and a lot of lung capacity and discovered a very tiny crack at the top of the shank where it meets the bowl. I like the pipe but I doubt I spent more than $40 from the "Estate Bin" at a local tobacconist so I think I'll...

An Old Pipe Suddenly Won't Keep an Ember.

That's the odd thing. Yes the pipe is smaller but unless my packing technique has changed (a possibility I'm not going to ignore) something else is going on. I will try packing less firmly in the future. Fortunately I have two pipes that are going well to tide me through until I figure this out.

An Old Pipe Suddenly Won't Keep an Ember.

One of my favorite briars, an old no-name pipe, suddenly won't keeping burning. Where I would get a nice 15-20 minute smoke now I am constantly relighting. I have very carefully cleaned the stem with alcohol dampened pipe cleaners and made sure that the shank is nice an unobstructed. It's not...

    Fishing Pipe

Definitely a corn cob (Missouri Meerschaum Emerald) and my tamper is a bot of dowel.

    Tobacconists in Manhattan NY

Business calls me down to NYC (a trip I try to avoid) and I will have some free time Mid-town West. Does anybody know of any good, interesting tobacconists in that area. Thank you.

A New Voice: An Old Smoker

Title edited for caps. Pls see Rule 9. -jpm I`m Brock from upstate New York. I've smoked pipes off and on since the 70s. I'm retired now and smoking a bit more. My two primary pipes are a no-name briar I found in a "pre-smoked" bin at a tobacconist and a corncob.
