Interesting Completed Ebay Auctions - British Pipes

And for me the Barling motor dome exudes Edwardian style - I can absolutely picture someone motoring along with one (however poorly it would have functioned in reality). The above contraption... Less so.

    Show Us Your Falcons!

I don't really mind them, but there is also a huge amount of variation. I did go and dig some stems out after all! Far left is an early vulcanite stem model (thanks @simong ), next is I believe a very early one (but I can't remember where I found that out), next is a 60s British-made one, next...

    Show Us Your Falcons!

Whatever @condorlover1 says, you just can't deny the innate sex appeal of the humble Falcon. I can't be bothered to dig out all of mine. By their very nature they end up in rucksacks, coat pockets and in the shed. The great thing about Falcons is they're almost impossible to get a bad smoke...

***What Are You Smoking, May 2024?***

1950s cutter top Dunhill Early Morning Pipe (a kind gift from a forum member) in an Ashton. Amazing how present the Latakia still is. I've been away at the coast all weekend mostly smoking Amphora Full and Amphora Burley so this is a good change of pace, and an exceptional tobacco.

Interesting Completed Ebay Auctions - British Pipes

Not me; I just scrolled down in the link @jguss posted and could access a digitalised copy. Maybe as I'm based in the UK (which would be strange, usually it's the other way round!). Just to note, there's very little else in that document relating to tobacco, and this is the only advert relating...

Interesting Completed Ebay Auctions - British Pipes

If this is from around the time of the tobacco 'cartridges', could this be some sort of in-built cartridge loader? I can't work out if the whole bit on the inside of the lid pushes down or if something comes through the hole. Never seen anything like it!

    Beat the Gurgling!! Here's how . . . . .

I'd make two points. Firstly, drying tobacco is good advice to begin with, but as @sardonicus87 said you definitely don't need to with good technique. In fact, I think some tobaccos really lose a lot of character if you dry them too much. Secondly, on 'slow smoking' - it's a real misnomer! We...

    What are You Reading Now?

Waterlog by Roger Deakin. It's an account of him swimming (we'd probably call it 'wild swimming' now) across Great Britain. It's a lovely book, but reads slightly sadly now with all the sewage being pumped into our rivers.

Premier League, Championship League, League One, etc.

Funny little article. Maybe I'm going soft, or maybe it's @simong 's fault, but I think I would prefer to see the gooners take it... Maybe i just hate the thought of us throwing a match. Or maybe it's all to do with how likely (or not) we are to win it anyway...

Amphora Burley in the first Peterson I ever bought (for 3 euros in a Madrid flea market).

    Show Off Your Petersons Here!

I think some of the 'pete geeks' sometimes forget how crap some of their pipes were.... (Although that's true of any marque).

    Show Off Your Petersons Here!

Mine was a 301 standard back in 2017. Bought it from a flea market in Madrid for €3. Cleaned it up but no matter what I did the crappy stem would reoxidise as soon as look at it. Most pipes like that I sell on, but I decided to try and acrylic stem from the Danish Pipe Shop which didn't quite...

    Dunhill Pipes?

They still make some very nice pipes - some of the modern ones are really great pipes; I just think they cost far more than I would want to pay. I personally prefer the older sandblasts too.

    Dunhill Pipes?

I suspect you're about to get lots of replies about how overrated Dunhills are, how bad their construction is, and how they're too expensive! I do think people often overpay for fairly 'run-of-the-mill' Dunhills, and if you're patient you can pick them up for £20-£50 or in joblots. I think...
