Innovations In Pipe Smoking - Is Design Dead?

Then I'm surprised we don't see it more often. There's a lot of innovative pipe shaping that becomes possible when you don't have to have a straight line hidden within the shape.

Innovations In Pipe Smoking - Is Design Dead?

The write ups on smokingpipes.com claim that Ser Jacopo has the capability to drill a shank along a curve. Some of their insanus pipes look to demonstrate this. That's an innovation that actually impresses me.

    Good And Bad Smokers

Is that a big recommendation for Howell then? His rustication looks great.

    Pipe And Cigarettes.

No, just pipes. I might have a cigar a year if I'm celebrating something. Definitely no cigs, chew, vapes, etc. The risk:reward ratio is too out of balance for me. And I'm a runner and not a very good one, so I need everything in the lungs functioning at 100%.

    Inflation

This is why I try to limit pipe purchases and max out my cellar while I can. Also favorite blends and brands have vanished. If a hurricane knocked out perique production and my favorite tobacco dried up and disappeared, I would be bummed when I eventually run out in five or six years. I'd like...

    Terminology Update Needed.

Yes. And now I'm off to smoke some Gregory Latakia Pease tobaccos.

    Dunhill I Believe The Hype

Personally I like the styling of the Danish and Italian schools too much for a shape chart standard English pipe. I don't mind that others love straight billiards that would put me to sleep. If I was ever going to splurge on a Dunhill, I would buy a Quaint just so it held my interest.

    Please "School Me" on Perique.

Buy a tin of GL Pease Fillmore. It is my very favorite in all of pipe tobacco, and it is practically mandatory to try for va/per smokers. The perique is assertive and unmissable, but well short of harsh. After you crack open the tin, put the plastic lid back on and leave it alone for a couple of...

    The Strongest Blend You’ve Tried

Tambolaka. I was big into the puff.com forums over a decade ago, and we put in a group order for these little logs of tobacco bound in jungle-made rope. I've steamed and cut the first log and the second is untouched in a jar. I've probably smoked less than a quarter of that first log. A lot...

    Peterson 2022 Halloween Pipe

I strongly agree. The Dracula is just marketing a cool name, and the stem itself looks really lame. If you are going to go for a gimmick, at least do it well. Imagine if they had opted for something closer to this glass pipe but with acrylic:

    Help Me with Cavicchi

I must be very forgiving with stems. The only ones I ever complained about were Missouri Meerschaum's plastic which are like smoking through a Barbie doll leg. A couple Forever Stems from Walker Briar Works cured that.

***What Are You Smoking, Sept. 2022?***

G&H Dark Flake Aromatic for the first time. Very good smoke, but not as close to 1792 as I was hoping. The Lakeland is much more subtle than I anticipated. I wonder if they sent me the non-aro version, but I do get notes of it occasionally. Nice vitamin N punch thankfully.

Received Excellent Service - site sponsor SmokingPipes.com

I've used them since 2008 or 2009. Only the now retired Frenchy of Frenchy's Pipes had customer service that excellent. Frenchy was known for including freebies ranging from pipe cleaners and tampers to the occasional free pipe. Smokingpipes.com quickly held a $200+ meerschaum for me with no...

Pipe Smoking in the Deer Stand...

No one can make definitive statements about deer. They're too fickle. I have personally shot a deer at 20 yards with a pipe in my mouth. I had to move the pipe to the other side of my mouth to shoulder the gun. The deer came in with her nose in the air. It worked that time as a curiosity scent...

    Propylene Glycol - Virginia Tobaccos

This part right here is one of my gripes with drugstore tobacco: they opted for loads of PG because they were too cheap to use affordable tins instead of dirt cheap plastic pouches.

    Propylene Glycol - Virginia Tobaccos

Semois is so absurdly dry, I'd sooner believe it contains sand.

    Propylene Glycol - Virginia Tobaccos

I've read GL Pease saying the opposite. Component tobaccos shipped to high-end blenders can already be treated with PG. Then they may have more applied by the blender. Yes, the drugstore aromatics are known for overdoing the PG, but there's not much in the way of truly 100% untreated pipe tobaccos.

New (estate) Castello and Stamping Question

Thanks, I didn't submerge it or anything, but it loosened some old tar. I always make sure to run dry cleaners through to not leave anything wet with alcohol. Last thing I want is to crack a hand-cut Castello stem!
