    Clean Pipe, Happy Life

A clean pipe is a happy pipe. A happy pipe is a happy me.

New Dunhill Ruby Bark Getting Broken in and First Clean

Title edited for caps. Please read Rule 9. I spent the past couple weeks smoking my new Dunhill RubyBark to build up a cake from bare wood. It started getting that not so fresh feel. I’m doing my first tear down and cleaning it.

    Springtime Deep Cleaning

It’s that time again to do a deep clean. I’m using Brian Levine’s method: Everclear and bristle pipe cleaners to clean out the stem, mortise, and shank.

    Deep Cleaning Cob Pipes

I’ve heard people cleaning the stem and shank on a briar pipe on a regular basis with a spirit (eg. Everclear). What’s the consensus on doing the same with a cob pipe?

    Dunhill Unicorn Pipe

I was looking at estate pipes on eBay and came across a Dunhill RubyBark pipe. Opening bid was $120 so I put in a bid of $123. Many folks were on the watch list so I had no expectations of winning this pipe. When time expired I was shocked to find out I won this pipe for $123. The original owner...

    One Light Pipe

I’ve heard people “complain” that they have to do multiple re-lights on their pipe. Personally I enjoy re-lighting my pipe. Are there any tips for being able to smoke a bowl with zero or minimal re-lights, yet still enjoy the bowl without thinking about how many times you have to light?

    Recovering from Insanity

An example of insanity is when you figure out the best way to pack a pipe, it smokes great and everything, but THEN you decide to change how you pack your pipe and you keep trying new ways, even though you already know the best way to pack. You keep trying new methods and you get frustrated...

Night Cap vs Magnum Opus: Battle of the Bold

I did a side by side comparison between Night Cap and Magnum Opus. Both are full flavored with Latakia, Orientals, and Perique. Flavors are similar: smokey and spicy. Night Cap is more of a nic hit, while Magnum Opus mellows you out. Both are excellent.

Take Your Time Preparing a Bowl

I’m learning to slow down my cadence when smoking a bowl, but I’m also learning to slow down and prepare a bowl right. A proper pack with a nice draw, and also getting a good char light so that it’ll create a good ember to give me that slow sipping enjoyment.

    Puffing like Dirty Harry

I have a naturally fast cadence when I smoke. I’ve tried various packing methods (3 step, Frank, etc) and for my pace, the bowl would get hot cuz of my cadence. Not enough air flow as I learned. I have to pack, for some would think, ridiculously loose (gravity feed). It works for me and I can...

    New Guy from Texas

Hello fellow pipers. I’ve been smoking pipes off and on for a while. Glad to be among like minded tobacco dwellers. I recently picked back up the pipe again after a hiatus, and I am really enjoying the experience now more than ever before. I listen to the podcast on a regular basis. Brian you’re...
