    Four Aces Red by Republic

Oof, replying to my own comment... But click on that photo of the loose tobacco spread out. It's fairly high resolution. Chime in with what you see. Some online blurbs claim Sparrow has some Cavendish in the blend. Just looking with the naked eye, I was skeptical. But getting in close for...

    Four Aces Red by Republic

Seems like there are a few different dark air tobaccos grown in southwest Kentucky, besides whichever ones they end up firing to cure. Heck, it was one of your epic twist posts where I learned about the fantastic "One Sucker" dark air cured strain. Remember? You called the lady at R.C. Owen in...

    The Great RYO Smoke Out!

The controls are interesting. Venguer was originally a RYO anyway, wasn't it? With the cut changed to ribbon around the same time all the others made the change due to the tax imbalance? And is the Stokkebye Norwegian the same as the RYO pouch version, just ribbon instead of shag? Or perhaps...

    The Great RYO Smoke Out!

I'd be interested to hear your take on the OHM Red when you get a chance to try a bowl. Partly because OHM seems to be one of the more readily available brands yet Briar Lee hasn't mentioned it AFAIK.

    The Great RYO Smoke Out!

"OHM Red, fruit, smooth, average score 6" Kind of stands out to me. I find the OHM Turkish Red quite decent. Especially at the price (just over a dollar an ounce).

    The Great RYO Smoke Out!

I spy one of the OHM offerings in the photo. Is it Bold, Extra Bold,or Turkish? Curious how it fares, since OHM seems easier to find than Buoy and the other brands Briar Lee has mentioned.

    Tobacco As Memory Root

I think I'll give this a try. Both because it's an interesting idea and because it reminds me of building a memory palace.

    Deer Tongue? That was easy!

I was reading Bull Durham business bonanza, 1866 - 1940 and it mentions an 1881 flavoring recipe of rum, tonka beans and deer tongue. Not that we can readily sample it these days...

    Discover RYO Type Tobaccos

So far I've bought two of the big plastic bag "pipe" tobaccos. OHM Turkish Red: quite nice. Lovely aroma in the bag, slightly spicy smoke. I'd guess it's like old early 1900s Camel in that while it has some Oriental tobacco, it may also have flavored burley pulling some of the weight as an...

    Four Aces Red by Republic

I've been following these "plastic pillow bag tobacco" threads with great interest. But I'm wondering if you're off with the dark fired references?? Dark fired is that unmistakable BBQ/smokiness that Stokkebye Amsterdam or Drum rolling tobacco or unflavored Parodi cigars have, right? I don't...
