    Canadian Plain Packaging

For those who haven't seen Canada's plain packaging: I got this from my local b&m today. The price of tins is no longer shocking. Nice surprise that they have this revered blend in stock still. The green-brown labels are something else. I don't think I'll look at Lucida Sans Serif in the same...

    Anyone Speak This Language?

Hi. Saw this image while doing an image search for Lancer's Slices. Anyone speak this language, or could hazard a guess at what the axes are? I believe it might be Japanese?

    First World Problem

So, I was going through my modest tin collection, checking for leaky or rusty tins. I came across a tin of Tudor Castle by McClelland that wasn't quite right. It seemed to rattle a little too much when I gave it a little shake. The plastic lid was bulging a bit. The tin is dated 2015. I took...

First Attempt At Carving A Pipe From Scratch

So, this is a first attempt at carving a pipe from scratch. I'll post more photos as the project progresses Started off with an 8" section of poplar 2 by 2. Design (billiard) sketched out with a Sharpie. Draught hole drilled first, using a 1/4" bit, eyeballing the angle and using a hand drill...

Pipes Magazine Radio Show and the Legal Smoking Age

I was listening to a bunch of radio shows the other day, and was struck by Brian Levine's warning that you had to be of legal smoking age to listen to the show. Now I understand that this is a completely unenforceable rule, but it got me thinking: Who's rule is this anyways? Is it iTunes...

    My New Favourite Smoke

I added a big pinch of HH Old Dark Fired ready rubbed to a bowl of MacBaren Modern Virginia Loose Cut and I am loving it! Fruity Virginias with the added bold oomph of the ODF. A nice change from either of the components by themselves.

I Have The Best Wife Ever: Birthday Gift

My wife surprised me with an early birthday present today. I'm really happy, as I've never owned a pipe that costs over $100 before. I'm a lucky guy, and I don't mean because of the pipe, tobacco and tamper!

    Capitalizashun

Hi, I just noticed that about 25 of the threads on the "most recent" list have titles that violate Rule #9 regarding proper capitalization. Have the mods given up on enforcing the rules?

    Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day to all the Canucks out there! After two weeks of rain and cloud, and a flooded basement, I'm finally enjoying a nice summer day. Released the bearded dragon in the front yard, keeping an eye on him while I enjoy a bowl of SPC Plum Pudding in my Canadian-made Brigham 613 prince.

CMT's Tobacco Wars - Anyone Seen It?

I stumbled across this show on the internet - Tobacco Wars, a tv series on CMT. The description goes like this: "Adairville, Ky., is home to the high-stakes world of Kentucky's dark fire industry. Fourth and fifth generation tobacco men compete to survive by any means necessary -- gambling all...

    Bulk Blends At Premium Prices?

This seemed contrary to logic, but maybe someone can explain this to me? My local b&m sells bulk tobacco at a higher price than some tinned blends. Bear in mind I'm in Canada, so don't freak out at the prices. As well, these are before another price jump due to the last federal budget. All bulk...

Spokane, Washington : Help Me Out

Last summer while driving through Washington and Idaho, I stopped in at Tobacco World in Spokane and picked up some bulk blends. Most of them I've identified, but I need help with a mild latakia blend the store called "High Seas". Can anyone familiar with this b&m help me out by identifying...

Chacom Baya Short Pipe - Anyone Familiar With This?

I bought a Chacom Baya 929 pipe yesterday. I wanted something light and compact, with not too small a bowl. This Chacom seemed to fit the bill. It's briar with a blue marble finish. I couldn't find much info on the internet on it. I believe it's an ebonite stem. Also, one website says it is...

Any Canadian Football Fans Out There?

This Sunday is the 101st Grey Cup game. The Saskatchewan Roughriders host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Former UNC Tarheels star Darian Durant faces off against former Temple Owls star Henry Burris. Opposing coaches are Kent Austin (Ole Miss, Cornell) vs. Corey Chamblin (Frankfurt Galaxy...

    Taking Apart a Kaywoodie

I know one of the "rules" of smoking pipes is "Thou shalt not take apart a hot pipe". That's usually an easy commandment to follow, but all of my other pipes pass a pipe cleaner to sop up extra moisture mid-smoke. This Kaywoodie that I picked up is something new to me, as I've never had a pipe...

    Putting A Pipe Out

I feel weird asking this question, seeing as a couple of months ago smoking a bowl meant a dozen relights. But lately I've been drying my tobacco for 20 min or so before packing my pipe, and that problem has diminished. Now today, I was smoking and had to stop in a store. I had to put my pipe...
