What Are You Listening To - May, 2024

I got this oldie out to play for my family. They're into country quite a bit and this is the first country album I bought. Not because of the music so much, but because of the group the sang it. The Byrds, Sweetheart of the Rodeo from 1968, my original album I bought back in that year. I cleaned...

    Happy Dave Brubeck Day!

I've been a Brubeck ban since the mid 1960's when I was in high school. I actually heard Time Out on the radio (AM no less) and really liked it. However when I went to buy it I couldn't find a copy. So I bought his next album, mostly based on the cover art by Joan Miro that I liked. This became...

What Are You Listening To - May, 2024

Picked this up recently, and it's a wonderful recording of these concertos. If you don't know the history of this pianist and how this recording came to be made, it's worth looking up. She sacrificed quite a bit to get this recording made, and it was well worth it both to her and to any listeners.

Lobotomy Procedures No Longer Require a Hospital Setting

Nope! I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

    And Your Favourite Cheese Is?

Stilton is number one for me. But I do like good (Bulgarian) feta too.

    Four More Chilli Sauces Tested.

I get all my hot sauces from this mail order company here in the states. They have so much to choose from and they ship quickly and pack it carefully. I'm not sure about overseas shipping but it might be worth a fun look. Mo Hotta Mo Betta was started by a guy and his wife that lived by me in CA...

    My New, Old, Classic Cassette-Deck

The best cassette deck I ever owned was a Nakamichi RX-505. It was an amazing deck that had so many unusual features that worked so well. I had it for about 10 years then sold it in 1999, and haven't missed it at all. But seeing what people are paying for them now I wish I had kept it because I...

What are You Watching? [2024] Please Rate 1-5

I swear... sooner or later you'll see just about everything on streaming TV. I've been watching TUBI lately even though it has some commercials, and I came across one of the weirdest shows I've seen in awhile. It's called The Longest Date. So imagine if you combined Survivor and Fear Factor and...

    Pure Prepared Salad Mustard

My two favorite mustards are, Frenches yellow or any similar, and whole grain mustard of no particular brand. I find whole grain mustard to be very flavorful but not too sharp. Both have their uses for different foods.

    Show us your Genods.

Well just to put everyones mind at ease, my gonads are still ok if a little aged. My Genod is doing much better though. I solved the unpleasant mouth feel by giving the briar stem 3 coats of satin polyurethane and let it cure for about a week. Now it feels like how a new vulcanite stem would...

My Pipe Smoking Buddy is Gone

Sorry for your loss. I know what it feels like as our first dog had Cushings too. Let's face it, they're family, that's all there is to it.

    Briar Stem Issues

Here's an update on my briar stem Genod. I finally decided to go with some satin finish polyurethane for the stem. It didn't seem to have much of a darkening effect on the stem, so I gave it three coats and let it cure for a week, and just tried smoking it for the first time after the treatment...

What Are You Listening To - April, 2024

I just received a massive vintage vinyl record drop. My step daughter and her husband just got back from visiting family in northern CA and found these in an antique store, and bought them for me. Two box sets with 13 records in the Beethoven set and 4 in the Mozart set. The records look almost...

What Are You Listening To - April, 2024

I am on an Evanescence kick I guess. I just got one of their newer cds in the mail, The Bitter Truth, and it's probably going to be one of my favorites. A little less metal than usual, but well recorded, and it definitely rocks!

    Savinelli 🐊

Here's a thought, buy a blue pipe and a red pipe (their stems look quite orange sometimes) in the same shape. Just swap out the stems and you'll have two blue and orange pipes with the gator finish! 😜 I'll just let myself out now....

What Are You Drinking? April 2024

Got a little warm weather, so I decided to break out the G&T last night.

What Are You Listening To - April, 2024

I've had this cd for a few years, but for some reason never reach for it when I want to listen to some Evanescence. I think I dismissed it originally because it was a live concert recording which I'm not usually fond of. (clapping, screaming fans) I did decide to give it another try and I'm glad...

    Great Photos Thread

I was a little bored yesterday, so I went for a walk around my house and property. I took my camera along and managed to find some interesting late day light and shadow subjects.

    Show us your Genods.

I just got this Genod with a briar stem, and while it's a beautiful pipe, I'm having trouble getting used to the feel of the stem in my mouth. It seems to suck all the moisture from my mouth. It's a problem that will take some work figuring out. Otherwise it's a wonderfully made pipe, and I look...

    Briar Stem Issues

I posted yesterday about a new pipe I got with a briar stem. Turns out I don't like the mouth feel with the briar as it sucks all the moisture out of my mouth. Pity, because I really like the looks of the pipe, but it has been suggested that I start this post to see if any of you have had the...
