If 1983 stamp was “Made in England 3”, “Made in England 5” would mean 1995. Correct?

The numbers just went to 25 as I understand. So this shows either a 5 or 6, hoping this is a 1985!

The numbers indicate they years after 1980. '5' would mean 1985.
23 would mean 2003, according to Pipephil.
But he's not going into details.
From the few examples I've seen, Craig now uses triple
digits, ex. '222' meaning 2022; '223' meaning 2023.
But then, some of his pipes don't seem to have digits stamped on
the briar but, rather, on the silver band.
Technically, yes, you would probably be right in your assumption
this is an 1985 or 1986 pipe.

Seems like they could have stamped a four digit year rather than require a decoder ring, but though I don't own an Ashton, I think they are handsome pipes in general.

‘8t or ‘86. Can’t tell from the pic. It is likely a repair band, from the looks of what you showed.

If you are referring to the number stamp so close to the band as being a likely repair band, it is not. That is how they were stamped. At least, that is how all of my ~15 Ashtons have been stamped. Right next to the band or close to the end of the shank.
