Here's a pipe rack I whipped up this weekend. The goal was to store a lot of pipes in a compact space. This will hold 10 in the space usually occupied by five. Second picture shows how they overlap.
One advantage of the design is it will hold odd shaped pipes, like the big squashed tomato with the flat shank.
Red Oak, stock dowels, cherry stain. Miter saw, screw driver, glue and a power drill (with Forstner bit) were total tools required.
I'll modify the next version. But this one pleases me as a first effort.

Pretty good idea........ What are the extra holes for?
Making racks is something I did for a while too. I have one of my own making and design too.

The extra holes are just to lighten the look a little, smokindawg
Version 2.0 is like to have lots more. Red Oak is a dream, that way, in that with a sharp bit you overlap holes.

I agree with most on the fact that the rack is very nice....... Its great when you can make your own, the freedom that comes with making it into anything you want it to be. My father and I make all our own, the one my brother and myself are useing we made. Well keep up the fine work, looks like you have a talent in wood working.
