I have a William Demuth pipe with a meerschaum bone tenon that is too narrow to get a pipe cleaner through. I already broke the tenon once by unscrewing from the shank and repair was costly. I’ve tried Falcon extra thin cleaners, but they are still too large. The pipe is almost 100 yrs old so I only smoke it a few times a year on special occasions. Any suggestions on how I might be able to clean the tenon and shank? Thank you.

Try the thin cleaners from Stanwell.
I get them from The Danish Pipe Shop

Otherwise the multicoloured chenille pipe cleaners sold in craft stores
They are very thin, but not very absorbent

If it were mine, I'd just drill it (tenon) out to a larger diameter. I've done it more that once, those tenons are very small diameter.

I'm cheap and use the chenille cleaners. I've got to use 2 to clean my pipes doubled over but they do the job and come in a pack of 500 for 3 dollars.

Stanwell. Okay. I’ll check in to the chenille ones too. Thanks.

These particular 9" pipe cleaners seem to have a thinner wire gauge than regular-length BJ Long, so I use them in pipes with smaller drillings: https://www.smokingpipes.com/access...aning-supplies/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=328251

I'm not sure why this would be the case. The only reason that comes to mind is that they have a narrow range of wire gauges that they'll buy to make pipe cleaners, and it's the luck of the draw whether the cleaners you get will be thicker or thinner.

In the past, I've also used scissors to trim the bristles so there's less overall bulk, but that gets old pretty fast. puffy
