Its almost always breezy to windy here so I've settled on a Zippo pipe lighter.

I saw that. There was also an article on why weed smokers like them so much. That might explain the lack of availability. I'm going to keep an eye out though.

The metal pipe model has an angled flame. The regular plastic Clippers that seem to have cornered the weed market don't. Still, they're refillable so better than bics in that respect.
Zippo & Bic.

Bic, easy reach bic but I did just buy a kiribi short that I’ve been using but if you fart while lighting your pipe, the flame goes out.
Outdoors I use a Zippo with a pipe insert, indoors I use the same lighter to light a spill.
Inside I prefer strike anywhere matches Or my Kiribi Kubota. Outside a Zippo with the standard pipe insert. Always have a few Bics on hand too.
BIC. I was always in the camp "if it is fire it can light a pipe", but I might change to a Zippo as I could see the benefit while being outside.
I tried the Scripto but when I refilled the flame was too low and sometimes it didn't even light.
@Chasing Embers -- CE--I figure you know lots about fire! So I'm looking into Beattie lighters (I wonder if the one's on ebay that are untested usually work? Do they have the usual flints and wicks?). Thanks for posting the above photo!

I bought a well used one, looks bronze, and it is great - and found a mint unused I haven’t tried but it has the special tool and everything else. Just look at pics, read descriptions, check out sellers as best you can.
I’m outside walking in the wind a lot and so Zippo with pipe insert most of the time. I’ve taken to matches out of a box indoors.
