Probably a long gone small local maker. Interesting design aspects.

I have and had a number of older pipes that were made by local small shops that have been out of business for decades. Many are forgotten by the passage of time. Some are very well done, others not so much.

if you you enjoy it and it smokes well, then that’s great.

The relief between the smooth portions and the deep, craggy blast is impressive.

There are some serious skills represented here. This was not the work of some weekend warrior (like me... ha, ha). I hazard a guess it was an American artisan. And, I agree with you on the decade. 1970s is about right. I am going to do some more digging. These pipe mysterious keep me up at night. Happy New Year!

Here's a close up of stem stamping. This looks more like "CHS" to me than anything. However, I just finished scouring Pipedia and pipephil.eu for all pipe makers with a last name beginning with an "S" to see if there is someone with any initials that work. I got nothing! I did kill an hour though... ha, ha.
