dmcmtk, the stem had a lot of oxidation that I have sense removed, but there were no markings on the stem that I could make out. I know there are some Charatan pipes that were not stamped simply because they weren't consistent with branding. It could be a replacement stem, but it doesn't look like it when you see it in person.

The shape's a dublin and based on your last picture it's a replacement.
The shank has been trimmed (it slopes to the stem) and it appears to be a little lighter color and perhaps a slight gap at the join, all consistent with replacement stems.
When cleaning the oxidation you have the problem of removing the oxidation without trimming the stem too much. If you buff it the stem will reduce more than the shank and both will round a little. Doesn't affect smoking though.
