I really love my two meerschaum pipes and smoke them daily. One is an Altinay lattice billiard (acrylic stem) and one is an AGovem smooth billiard (polyester stem and a seperate acrylic stem). I was looking at picking up a vintage meerschaum with a bakelite stem and was wondering if anyone had any input on that. I'm not exactly a pitbull when I clench the pipe or anything, and I tend to hold the pipe in my finger like a cigarette when I smoke, but how do y'all find these older bakelite stems hold up to daily wear and tear? Is all vintage bakelite created equal or is some better than others? Anything I should look out for? There wasn't much on the forum in regards to this topic so I figured I'd ask. Thanks everyone.

I have one bakelite stem (it's on a briar, though), and it strikes me as a tougher material than either vulcanite or acrylic. It may not be -- I have no clue how they rank relative to each other on the pertinent scales -- it just seems tougher to me, subjectively.
