Two New Meers From Astas Meerschaum

Won’t help I’m afraid. This is my outdoors pipe and heavy wind will carry the smoke over the rim regardless

Two New Meers From Astas Meerschaum

dear gentlemen, do you clean the rim of your meerschaums? It takes a lot of elbow grease to remove the black, and yes it can be done, but after a few smokes it’s back. I practiced cleaning it after every smoke but noticed that it slowly but steadily removes etchings from the top. This picture...

Two New Meers From Astas Meerschaum

In case anyone may be interested (if not, than purely for bragging purposes) This is its current state after 2 month of heavy use (an unsmoked meer for reference) It’s now my favourite pipe atm.

Two New Meers From Astas Meerschaum

Kudos to @didimauw for getting me familiar with Astas Meerschaum Pipe master Mustafa Şekercioğlu. My two meers have arrived today. Ordered them almost a month ago, well, this is how long it now takes to deliver to Ukraine (and even that method of delivery is now under question with all the...

    Quest for a pipe polish

Thanks for the links. Doesn’t the organic oil turn rancid? Which I believe is the main argument against using olive oil.

Rattling Stem at the Tenon and Mortise

A lot of nail polish would be a better solution than a paper towel. I’m a big fan of nail polish, cause it was the only thing that helped me. My stem was not “rattling” but it was kinda “spinning freely”

Won a Beautiful Estate Meer - Restoration Advice Welcome

I think you are correct. But the seller’s grandmother has been using it as a pipe, so guess it’s a pipe now :) Looking at the price list I am not 100% sure I would be willing to spend a price of a new meerschaum pipe to restore something I bought out of curiosity. If it were MY grandmothers...

    Pipe stem is loose.

First try a q-tip soaked with hot water. Don’t use too much water, just get some moisture inside and let it dry. It could help the wood swell out a bit. i should say this method didn’t help me when I tried it, but it’s worth a try since it is probably the least aggressive treatment. Secondly...

Won a Beautiful Estate Meer - Restoration Advice Welcome

Hi friends. Won this meer at a local auction for $12. It has been sitting there for 3 month, guess no one wanted it she was waiting for me. Wouldn’t go as far as thinking it’s a 19th century meer, but it’s easily twice my age. Unfortunately it seems she suffered an hard landing and looks like...

    Hello From Ukraine

Thank you. It means a lot to our people! If it were not for hearts like yours I don’t thing we would have had strength to stand our ground.

***What Are You Smoking, November 2022?***

No place in Ukraine is now safe, unfortunately. But some places are safer than others. It just takes some getting used to the idea that waking up in the morning is no longer taken for granted. Not sure what you mean about “most of the population”, cause according to the UN data, 12,5 mln...

Yes, this place surely feels better!

    Hello From Ukraine

Actually half of Ukrainians believe this plane to be a soviet monstrosity created only to prove the imperial ambitions of the party - a gargantuan aircraft that had cost too much to build and drained too much money for maintenance, with little real benefit other than propaganda. I myself...

    Ode to My First Meer

having a coin or a washer in your pipe is an old 19th century trick that supposedly helps speed up meerschaum coloration. The metal allows the oils to condense at the bottom of the bowl and eases their absorbing into the meer (I personally believe that a huge role is played by the fact that this...
