A Visit To America’s Oldest Pipe Tobacco Company

Glad I shared this. Here are a few photos of the pipes I bought, including an estate Davidoff and a Chacom opera, as well as a Kristiansen squashed apple, a Reum and a Nuttens.

This is the old Sutliff vault which is now lined as a cigar humidor.

A Visit To America’s Oldest Pipe Tobacco Company

I was in Richmond VA today, and got a chance to visit Sutliff and get a tour of their tremendous facility. Jake McKenna runs the concierge service for Tobaccopipes.com, and I got to pick up several pipes and a load of tobacco. I highly recommend this service. Jake was great.

    Fish Plaque Pipe Holder

I wanted a special pipe holder for my Neerup/Peder Jeppesen “Silver Salmon” series pipes, which also have a spinning fly reel on the stem. I bought a carved wooden fish (not taxidermy) for $20 at a flea market and mounted it on a plaque I made from plywood and birch tree bark from my property...

Show Off Your Castello Pipes Here!

I had a chance to visit McCranie’s in Charlotte this week. They had a dozen new Castellos, but I settled on this estate from the “chains” series of 250 pipes which they had just acquired and was not up on their website yet. It’s my second one from that series. Matt McCranie was very personable...

    Chicago 2024: Who's going?

I really enjoyed the Chicago show. It lived up to all expectations. Since I like to actually smoke all my artisan pipes, I picked up several estates from Redeemed Pipes, including my first J Alan and two Tom Eltangs. I also picked up a new Adam Davidson billiard, which I’m smoking right now on...

    Chicago 2024: Who's going?

What artisan pipe makers who usually attend would use most want to add to your collection, cost aside?

Dr. Alan Harrelson Visits Chesterton’s in Steubenville, Ohio

I now regret having started this thread about what was for me a very enjoyable pipe evening. See you all in Chicago for what I'm sure will be a great show.

Dr. Alan Harrelson Visits Chesterton’s in Steubenville, Ohio

I started this thread with a positive vibe, but I guess haters gonna hate. As far as Harrelson showing off his “new SUV,” my suggestion is that rather than be jealous get up off the couch and get yourself a slice of the American Dream, too.

Dr. Alan Harrelson Visits Chesterton’s in Steubenville, Ohio

Well, I suppose even his Ph. D in history just can’t overcome your regional linguistical bias. Your loss.

Dr. Alan Harrelson Visits Chesterton’s in Steubenville, Ohio

Alan Harrelson of The Pipe Cottage visited Chesterton’s in Ohio yesterday and held a blending session with about 30 pipers in attendance. The new proprietary blend is named for St. Bede and has a healthy dose of Latakia. An impromptu banjo and bluegrass session followed.

    Rouxgaroux: A Rexminderx

I got my pound of the recent Rouxgaroux blend from Ernie Q yesterday. It smoked full of flavor out of the bag and reminded me how much I enjoy red Virginias and Periquel

    C&D’s Palmetto Balkan

I bought four 8-ounce tins of Palmetto Balkan from two sites upon its release this week.. My plan is to smoke one throughout the summer and cellar the other three. I love that they are individually numbered. My initial impressions are that it was a bit dry out of the tin but ready to smoke. It...

    Rouxgaroux: A Rexminderx

I grabbed a pound of it. I’m interested in smoking some now and seeing how some of it ages.

    Sara Eltang Pipes

Before I read the book about Tom Eltang (It’s Good To Be A Pipemaker), I just assumed Sara Eltang was a relative who made her own line of pipes. When I learned that it’s a line made by Tom and named for his daughter I bought one and it arrived today. I can’t wait to smoke it. Has any one else...
