    Large bowl/chamber pipes

Most retailers list the dimensions of the pipes. Some factors other than bowl size: # The presentation of the tobacco will affect how fast/slow they burn. Shags burn fastest, followed by ribbon. Flakes and plugs the slowest - Whether you rub out, cube cut or fold&stuff matters. # The...

    And Your Favourite Cheese Is?

Fresh chevre is very mild in taste and aroma The more aged it is, the pong-ier it gets. I once bought a chevre at an French farmers' market. It smelt and tasted (I could only stomach a tiny bit) like it had been aged in a pen with the billy goats Ewe's milk cheese can be a good transition to...

    What the wife thinks

My wife tolerates my pipe and cigar habit. I only smoke on weekends. And it is all done outdoors. Thank goodness for the temperate weather in Sydney I wonder if this degree of tolerance will continue when I retire in a few years and ramp up my smoking 🤔

    And Your Favourite Cheese Is?

I’m in the same boat. Just work out how much you can tolerate. Cream gives me the most problem - absolutely darstardly ☹️ Luckily I’m fine with most cheese if I limit myself. Occasionally I look at a piece of cheese and think “damn, you look so delicious - I’ll put up with the consequences later” 😏

***What Are You Smoking, April 2024?***

The previous bowls were diminutive and lasted 25-35 mins I decided to have a 3rd bowl today Erinmore Mixture In a somewhat neglected straight Bulldog, saddle stem Stamped “imported briar” with no other markings. Most likely a basket pipe Spot-on drilling with a nice open draw

***What Are You Smoking, April 2024?***

The first bowl was a short 35min smoke in the small clay Having a second bowl of the same 50:50 shag cut blend of C&D red Virginia and Tilbury In the Jorn Micke designed Royal Copenhagen porcelain Again a diminutive chamber because of the double-walled construction This is a noticeably...

    And Your Favourite Cheese Is?

Australia has very tight border security laws especially regarding food imports But we can legally bring in up to 20kg of cheese, including unpasteurised ones. Provided they vacuum sealed and we declare they are for personal consumption. 😋

    Erica Arborea honey

Interesting ! What does it taste like ? I love honey, but my tastes run to light/mild flavoured honey eg acacia, boxwood, blue gum and orange blossom I do not like the strongly flavoured leatherwood honey from Tasmania. And chestnut honey was an expensive disappointment for me. And...

Recent discussion of clays has me reaching out for my Franken-clay A bowl of home blend - 50:50 C&D red Virginia and Esotetica Tilbury

Ever Bought a Pipe Just as a Curiosity?

I have posted this several times I bought this Franken-clay out of curiosity. My interest was piqued because someone had taken a $2 utilitarian clay and spent time and effort into assembling this And yes, I have smoked it

    And Your Favourite Cheese Is?

A Stilton platter with a magnum of 1966 Graham vintage port. Stichelton (on right) with another Stilton carried from London in hand luggage a couple of days earlier. With 2 other Stiltons sourced in Sydney Unanimous opinion - the Stichelton was the cheese of the night A couple of other...

    And Your Favourite Cheese Is?

Stichelton. Unfortunately due to an idiotic bureaucracy it is not allowed to be called Stilton as it is made form unpasteurised milk

    And Your Favourite Cheese Is?

I love (almost) all cheese I love durian, so stinky cheese is never going to be a problem 😁 But I have absolutely no intention of trying casu marzu - the maggot-ridden Sardinian goat’s cheese 😝
