Thoughts on Sutliff Match 20 and C&D Cordial

I have been smoking a lot of both Sutliff Match 20 and C&D Cordial. I've several pounds of each remaining and I need to replenish my supply. I want to stock only one kind in bulk. I enjoy Scottish style a little more than the other styles though I still enjoy the Balkans and so-called "straight"...

It's basically a cigar. So I love GH Black or Brown Irish so these pics are Brown Irish. Get a mandolin...

    Pipe prepping ahead of time

I've been trying to save time in the prepping department. I've had a lot of success with pre-filling and keeping 3 to 5 pipes at a time ready to smoke my go-to favorite blends so in a rush I can grab and go. If I want something not packed and I have the time I can grab another pipe and pack.

Please Help Identify a Dr. Grabow

Bought an estate lot of Kaywoodie pipes boxes and cloths. In a box was this Dr Grabow. Surprise. I know nothing about these from a collectors perspective. Would like to know the decade or year and maybe the model type. The only markings are 9841 on the side of the stummel. Nothing else. Thoughts?

Need help with tobacco brand early 1970s

Growing up my wife remembers her grandfather smoking cherry tobacco with chocolate notes. This was in the early 1970s. Her grandfather was born 1912. Can anyone remember a possible brand this particular tobacco might have been that was popular during that time?

    Connecticut Shade observations

To those in CT. I've noticed since around 2018 less tobacco field planting driving to the airport. With Covid I didn't travel by air for a while. Flew in 2021 and 2022 and didn't see any fields planted. Figured Covid. This year nothing. So contacted Dr. James LaMondia of the Connecticut...

Aging tobacco in my own lifespan

Some of my fellow pipe smokers tell me they have tobacco which was bought in 1990 and carefully stored and aging still. At my age of 52 I may not last 35 years from now if I started aging tobacco that long today. I don't see the point of buying tobacco and letting it age for me in my case...

    My Moisture Meter

Just putting this out there for folks. Maybe some will find it useful. I use a wood moisture meter which gives a relative moisture content for tobacco. Here's a pic. I use it for comparison readings by compressing the tobacco around the prongs.

The many ways we de-smoke ourselves

When I come back inside from a long session with or even after a few bowls in general of unpolite blends I'll grab some minty stuff and brush up then grab a few Ricola and change my shirt. Then the wife doesn't say I smell like an ashtray. Which I'm not sure is a compliment or not. Still...

Who Taught You to Smoke a Pipe?

The man I knew some 40 years ago is mostly likely passed on. He was probably in his mid 50s then but seemed much older to me. I've always remembered him. Looked a lot like Peter Graves as I remember. You see, this man smoked a pipe all time. Once every week we would meet up and he would teach...
