Turn the knob and the flange expands to seal the jar.

Came with a small ceramic bowl, holding a sponge. The idea is to dampen the sponge and attach the bowl to the steel lid bottom with the embedded magnet.
I never needed to use that device because the humidor seals so well. A couple of warm breaths into the jar before re-sealing is all I ever need for cigars or pipe tobacco.

Marked "Baldelli" on the lid and "Italy" on the bottom. Labeled "Tabac" on the front (French for "tobacco".). Canister has an expandable rubber gasket in the lid that makes a tight seal when you turn the knob on the top.
