Could the Pictures be Trying to Tell Me Something?

I stayed in an old seaside hotel, down on the English Riviera last week. The corridor I was staying on had lots of different Edwardian/1920’s watercolours on the walls; I wonder if the artist was a pipe smoker?












I was shocked…



The jockey did have his briar switched to the on position.

Those are very good 1920's watercolors. The 1920's was a good time to be a pipe smoker.

Likely just painted what was commonly seen.

Looks like the pictures were suggesting gentlemen should wear flat caps or, some sort of head covering when out and about. Helmets, of course, when following the dogs, chasing the wily fox. Pipes and cigarettes appear optional, a personal choice.

There was a programme on the telly box recently, insinuating JFK was responsible for the demise of gentlemen wearing hats, as he chose not to.

I, for one, have more than a few hats, and I happily kick against the norms of hat wearing, much like smoking a pipe I guess.
