Enjoying a bit of a weekend escape and brought some pipes along. I have an acre at a lake up in the mountains and I needed to get a better idea of the topography to help finalize the cabin design. While looking things over we decided to relax and enjoy the lot a bit while there.

Lit up some GH&C Kendal Black Cherry in a CAO meer and poured a glass of Dos Maderas 5+5 rum:

While enjoying my smoke and beverage I noticed some wildlife amongst the flora:

Just kidding. We found a nice place to setup an picnic site:

Had time to enjoy some WCC Old Dominion in a rusticated Savinelli Oscar Tiger with a glass of Kirkland 10 year Port:

Couple shots of the lot:

This should be the view I end up with and the camera doesn't really do it justice:

A much needed stress relieving trip indeed.

Someone enjoyed her dehydrated strawberry chips and playing in the dirt:

Ah to be a kid again! ? ? ?

Beautiful vistas all around. I don't know how connected you are to people round about, but I bet you could gain some insight if you could take one or two old timers from the area up there and get some in input. They might think of things you wouldn't, prevailing winds, sun exposure versus not, drainage, and other such, that might improve your siting of a structure, along with views. My grandparents house was arranged to have fewer smaller windows on the side facing onshore wind from Lake Michigan. My wife's grandparents' house in rural Missouri was positioned to catch summer breezes before the advent of air conditioning. Also, maybe position away from tall trees that might come down on a roof. Etc.

If this is a longterm getaway, all on one level could be smart, in case anyone has mobility problems with age, including decks, if any, etc. Having bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen on one level, plus easy access at entrances, makes it available to you and family longterm. Sounds weird now -- maybe not so much at age 80.

Needless to say, I'm not a construction guy, so I need to be quiet. But in that terrain, footing on a structure is important. Some of that ground, like the rock, will be there for a thousand years plus. Other ground is on the move. Get someone who knows their stuff to consult. Looks like your daughter might have some opinions of her own!
