At a guess, I'd think that maybe olive wood and lemon wood would not maintain the integrity of the screw spiral on the base like briar. There's some intriguing feedback in the pipe community reporting lemon wood and olive wood enhancing the flavor of certain tobaccos (Olive-Latakia and Lemon-Virginia).
Of course flavor experience is subjective.
When I got back into pipe smoking a few years ago, I bought some morta and olive wood pipes because I was intrigued by the same question of their flavour vs briars. There's some intriguing feedback in the pipe community reporting lemon wood and olive wood enhancing the flavor of certain tobaccos (Olive-Latakia and Lemon-Virginia).

I’ve never tasted aluminum in any Falcon, any more than I can taste the glass when I’m drinking bourbon!Years ago I tried a Kirsten pipe. The taste of aluminum overpowered the tobacco even after several bowls. That was it for me. I don't see how anyone can smoke an aluminum pipe.
Mostly the bowls are briar on an aluminum stem but they do make meerschaum and other bowls that fit.Popular... What is a Falcon bowl???
Got it. I was being funny ?Mostly the bowls are briar on an aluminum stem but they do make meerschaum and other bowls that fit.
Ah, I just figured perhaps you hadn’t heard of or seen a Falcon pipe. They aren’t as popular as they once were. Subtle humor went screaming past me, lol.Got it. I was being funny ?
Very much like drinking wine out of metal chalices or mugs. Totally spoils the flavour of the wine. ?Years ago I tried a Kirsten pipe. The taste of aluminum overpowered the tobacco even after several bowls. That was it for me. I don't see how anyone can smoke an aluminum pipe.
