Thanks for the thorough introduction! I think your $100 rule is prudent. There is still so much that can be learned from inexpensive pipes that can hone your preference for size, shape, weight, etc. and then once you know that you don't have to take a loss selling those higher end pipes that you paid good money for at a fraction of the price.
