Looks like a real work horse. I think it is right between a billiard and a pot shape. I haven't seen the brand for sale in a while, but I'm glad to hear it is a good smoker.
I've got an H.I.S churchwarden with a Dublin bowl. I only smoke Virginias in it. I have several churchwardens, but this one is the best. Not only because it smokes so good, but it's the first pipe my son ever bought for me.
I have an H.I.S. bent billiard. I purchased it because it had the Italian flag colored band, but it tuned out to smoke great!
Background: “H.I.S., or Hugo International Series, is a line of seconds made by Gardesana, largely for export. The pipes are stamped H.I.S. and Italy. At some point it would appear the pipes were imported by Mastercraft, in that they appear in brochures for Dr. Grabow in the early 1970's.”
It is a real work horse. The kind of pipe I can clamp down on all day: it’s very light and petite.
I picked it up at my local cigarette store. I think it had sat unsold for quite sometime because the stem was badly oxidized, green and terribly sour.?
The pipe cleaned up nice and has about 15 bowls of half&half under its belt
