I mostly smoke light to medium nicotine blends. I don't crave nicotine; I put up with it. But I have a couple estate pipes in which familiar moderate strength blends seem extra potent. It seems plausible that previous owners may have been high-nic junkies and saturated the briar. Nicotine ghost or just imagination?

who knows. Also could be lots of things. For example the amount of nicotine in the leaf is not the biggest factor however the chemistry such as ph effects nicotine absorption, so if the pipe somehow was more base or acidic or even something I am not thinking of, well that could change the chemistry of the smoke enough to change how you absorb the nicotine. Still going to say I would bet on placebo, but who knows.
