Old Zenith missing parts

Ladies and gentlemen I need some help. I have this lovely old Zenith pipe that I’d love to smoke, but I foolishly tore out the rubber insert that goes in the mortise which would hold the stem. It also didn’t have a stem when I got it. I can’t for the life of me find the rubber ring that I need to hold the insert. Not sure if it needs to be a specific part or what. Any help you can give me would be much appreciated! And here’s the pipe for your viewing pleasure.

I would just wrap the end of the stem in a similar diameter rubber gasket.

Can’t see why an O-ring wouldn’t work. Might have to experiment with a few different sizes.
