I thought that was the front cover of H&E Magazine 1938 Simon!
1936!!
You’ve surprised me there, getting the year wrong I mean. 1938 was (as everybody knows) the inaugural year of Ivor Biggun, lost his title (& his todger) in the blitz, poor chap.

@simong : You are absolutely right. Wasn't the October 1936 issue the one with Oswald Mosley and Unity Mitford at the Hermann Goering Naturist Rally at Nuremberg double spread center fold with the article on naked mustache trimming and dying your bush blond?

In 1942 Kaywoodie ran these ads in major circulation magazines. By the way, during the war the government allowed a certain pre war level of advertising to be used as cost against all the billions of dollars of cost plus contracts they made for essential war supplies. This helped morale and kept the magazine publishers in business, until the war was won.

And there wasn’t any want of what was then called hillbilly music on the radio during the war.

Top song of 1942

That doesn't surprise me as over the last couple of decades all forms of smoking have been in decline whether it be cigarettes, pipes or cigars. I think it's a combination of constant tax hikes and continuously more draconian anti tobacco legislation. The ban on smoking in pubs was one thing but now they are talking about banning it in places like parks?.

I bet the Harrods tobacco department would've been some sight back in 1895.
It is banned for quite some time in parks in NYC. (unless you are smoking weed from the smell of parks nowadays)

I was actually trying to figure out when this ad might date to because I’ve come across one of these pipes: a Lancastrian Duncan!
