Around the world, especially in Great Britain and the Commonwealth, Today (as well as on Friday the 11th - Veterans Day in the US) we remember those that fought in the last century of wars.

Light a pipe and take a moment to remember that sacrifice.

Referencing the poppy pin, my wife is the late only child of a World War One (One!) veteran. In their little farm town in Missouri, he was the member of both the VFW and the American Legion, and my wife as a child sold the poppies for donations. She would do this for the Legion, because their poppies were hand made by veterans rather than manufactured.
(Her grandma was among the last of the Conestoga wagon pioneers, as an infant, and had to re-learn to walk after the wagon ride. She lived to be 99.) When I met my wife as undergrads at U. Mo., it all sounded so improbable, I had to figure up the dates to see if it was even possible. It was/is.
