I fell and sprained my ankle back in early February. No bruises or excessive swelling, so I never bothered seeing a doctor for it. Well fast forward to today and my ankle still hurts somewhat even though I take ibuprofen three times a day. Not severe pain, I'm back to my pre injury level of activity but I can still feel what happened. I'm starting to suspect that my smoking has been slowing down the healing process.

At the time of the injury I hadn't smoked in weeks because it was too cold, and I didn't smoke again until a month after the injury when it was finally warm enough to spend an hour outside. Now I'm back to smoking two or three times a week, both pipes and cigars. I've been doing some reading on medical sites and many say nicotine slows the healing process, of course those sources do tend to be biased against tobacco. I also had stopped taking tylenol for the last month of April because my pain had almost totally subsided, I resumed taking it because the pain returned with a vengeance.

What are your experiences with smoking after a sprain or similar injury? In any case I think I'm probably going to quit smoking and drinking for the rest of the month and see if I notice a difference; and I might end up needing to see an podiatrist anyway

As a species we are wired to assess and contemplate our injuries. Some of us more than others. Sending one seeking for answers and solutions to all types of ailments.
The Tylenol and Ibeprofen 3x daily on your liver is probably worse then the 2-3x weekly pipe on you ability to heal. Doesn’t sound like you consume enough nicotine to have the adverse affects you’ve found on a website.
Best bet is to see someone in the medical profession, not seek advice from a bunch of nicotine crazed pipe wranglers.
However to answer your question…I stubbed a toe once and followed it up with a bowl of Stonehenge Flake. It was a nirvana smoke and I forget about the stubbed toe and my nine other toes…at least while the smoke lasted.

I will never get used to people that seek medical advice from random people on smoking forums.

I was going to post a picture of my toe and see if the good doctor could tell me why it hurts. Is it from digging up the new corn bed in my garden, hiking last weekend in the Smokies, or.....???

3 ops on my back after a industrial injury in 1995, last year my Partner and I were sitting in the garden, She stood up and let out a yell and fell, I caught her and fractured a vertebrae and prolapsed 2 more disc's in my mid back, my Partner had either sprained ankle or broken, She is a retired Nurse and like you wouldn't go to hospital, I had to go and after a MRI Scan revealed my damage, couldn't hardly move for months and it was only my pipe that kept me sane, still living with pain but loving my Pipe. puffy

I'm not seeking medical advice, I was just curious what experiences other people have had. I'd already made up my mind to see a professional I don't notice an improvement soon
Yeah, this isn't caused by smoking. There's something going on there and as much as we vilify doctors you need to see one.
And I will. I'm not anti doctor at all, most of them mean well but are simply misinformed about the nuances of different forms of tobacco

No offense to any profession, but if I have a pain in my ankle persisting after an event from 3 months ago I'm not headed to the podiatrist. I'm seeing an orthopedic specialist.

I don't think enjoying a pipe or cigar 2 or 3 times a week has any relevance whatsoever, or is a cause for concern, but I slept at an ordinary hotel other night, not a Holiday Inn Express.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll admit I'm not up on all the different medical specialties

Mmmm...... Don't think there's any effect from the tobacco. Many years ago, i fell from my bike while cycling in a trail. Scratches on both arms and legs, and my chest slightly hit the ground from a half feet height. I smoked like hell after the fall 😅
