Hello pipe smokers!

Just wanted to share some photos of a briar pipe I painted. Total cost of the project was around 30$, including the pipe( just a no-name pipe I got online). Didn’t want to spend too much on my first attempt on briar.

I was going for a ‘water-like’ effect.

First I sanded off the briar’s finish. Then I layered acrylic paint until I was happy with the texture’s. After that I did washes and dry-brushing to show the texture’s more.

I am going to sand the rim a bit before I smoke from it.

Thanks for looking!

That's a unique and artful pattern carefully scaled and applied. Different paints, especially those burnt and drawn into the airway, may be toxicological considerations; that could be researched to reduce any risk. But the visuals are terrific. The process might be a patent. The process might be used in painting cars, motorcycles, boats. It's eye catching.

I think they are beautiful pipes, but I wonder how hot they will get since the briar will not be able to breathe. The pipe is now almost like Brylon. If they stay cool, and the paint doesn't bubble, you have made a great product.

Hey all,

So I’ve had about 12 - 15 bowl’s so far out of the red one.

No change to the paint job yet… no bubbling.
No awkward tastes or smells… seems to be smoking just like it used to.
I am glad I sanded the rim, think I will continue to do that in the future.

I will update you all again in a few more days once I’ve had another 20ish bowl’s.

Thanks for checking it out!
