I think some mortas are nice but on the whole reading accounts here Im not sold on it being something I need. Im not sold on it being a superior material. If I happened upon one I loved I might buy it but Im cured of feeling like I have to have a morta. I thought I needed a Meer but I will never smoke it enough to color it well. It may find its way to the marketplace since I have other pipes I reach for first.

It was the carver's first attempt with morta. He likes to go very non traditional. With morta's tendency of cracking, simple may be the best way to go.

Interesting. I didn't know morta had a tendency to crack. Seems like a reason to avoid it, and it explains my limited experience. I bought a morta off of Smokingpipes a few years back. While cleaning it after it's first smoke, I noticed a crack. I wasn't sure if it came with a crack that I didn't notice, or it cracked from the first smoke. Regardless, I sent it back and haven't had any interest in morta since.
