If kept away from light, are heavy duty Ziplock Freezer bags any good for tobacco storage? If yes, up to about how long could they be used? Months? Years?

Back when I first started, I got several ounces of a cheap, bulk tobacco (I'd rather not name it, for fear of being tarred and feathered out of sheer principle) in those very heavy-duty Ziplocks. Lord knows how long it had been in there, but upon opening it, everything seemed perfectly fine. So from my own experience, I would say, if it's for months, they should hold up just fine. Years? You might be rolling the dice there. I'm a Ball jar fanatic myself, so I wouldn't even chance it if I were in your position.

In my experience a small amount will dry out quickly. In mass I am sure the tobacco will stay moist for a little while (a month or two) but I always store in Ball Jars. I have never had tobacco dry out that way, or mold for that matter. I never store any amount in zip lock baggies personally. Jars can also be used over and over as long as you use new lids.
Short term is a thumbs up.

I wouldn’t depend on them beyond a month or two. Longer than that Mason jars are pretty bullet proof and reusable.
Some blends have so much PG that they’d probably go longer than a couple of months in a zip loc.

This is very true. Here on the Oregon coast, very high humidity, I can leave most tobacco out for days and it's still moist.
I've ordered bulk tobacco and got it in the normal heavy duty ziploc bags and it was dated six months prior to the time I received it. It was still in good condition. I put it into either mason jars or mylar bags right away. Even though it was still in good condition when I got it I wouldn't trust it for any length of time.
They are porous and not for the long term, just like they really aren't all that great for the freezer over the long haul.
