    I think it depends on the pipe. Most of my pipes are fine to remove stem when warm, but I have one that is extremely tight even when cold. I don’t even try until that one has cooled.

    I have pretty much the same issues as the OP with Latakia blends. DFK does not give me any issues and I smoke it almost every day (Three Nuns). I also get pretty much the same reaction from wood smoke. I just avoid both as much as I can.

    Yes I also retrohale cigars. I actually smoked cigars regularly before coming to the pipe. I probably do it almost every puff but the trick is to exhale most of the smoke and only retrohale the last 5-10%. You get the additional flavor without watering eyes and burnt out sinuses.

    I think the lowest I have smoked is -17F. High-loft jacket and pants and a ushanka on my head and I was ok for 45 minutes to an hour. My hands did get cold. I have since made a ventilated smoking room in the basement. I feel spoiled now!

    I would think it would depend on where you lived. Small towns might have a more limited variety. But even in the city, whatever the local tobacco shop or drug store had was likely what you stuck with. Find one you like out of the selection you have readily available and stick with it.

    Just finished re-reading The Knights of Rhodes by Bo Giertz. The discipline, commitment, grit and faith of those men is truly incredible. If you want to know what it was like as a knight/member of one of the medieval religious orders this is a great book.

    Yes listen to your body. If you smoke indoors you are probably breathing in a fair amount of smoke, especially if there isn’t substantial ventilation. I smoke while playing piano. It leads to quite a few relights haha.

    More Frustration W/SG Flakes

    This right here. I have to put it in my palm and press/rub hard with my thumb to actually break the flakes apart fully. Since I started doing that I don’t have anymore issues. SG must press their flakes with a lot more pressure than most others. Orlik i can just rub between my fingers and off I go.
