For some reason i've never been able to comfortably read Rowling, something about her syntax and the rhythm of it, but I find the idea of wands kind of engaging. Everyone needs a touch of magic in their lives, and these are most appealing.
Does Gandolf consider that type of stain kosher? I'm pretty sure Ents would object but for a few reasons.
Tolkien simply took a few Irish tales and refashioned them. I seem to prefer the original tales. My wife and daughter were Tolkien fans however. The house was covered in Lord of the Rings schlock.

Why? He admitted to basing the trilogy on Irish tales. They were his ... inspiration. He pulled them together and gave them a few twists. Mind you. I'm not denigrating his skill or mind. He certainly mines the gold with his offerings. Gotta admire that also.
Not having engaged in social intercourse with the man personally I have to base my observation on news reports.
I should also note that he also vehemently denied the Irish influence in the news. But, he spent years in Ireland working so I imagine there was influence.

The Germanic, Nordic, Finnish, and other Celtic legends have a higher claim to his tales as he well attested. But…. I am sure their are some hobbits here who will want to chime in with greater detail.
Not enjoying Tolkien is like not enjoying a shitty band like the rolling stones because you listened to howlin wolf.
Be be fair some people find it hard to lose themselves in his writing and incredibly detailed things that were more interesting to him and did my further the story. I believe that’s a fair call.
Same. Hadn't even heard of him until I was an adult and really don't care for fantasy novels.
