Just sent 3 IM lighters to ARS for repair and my Linge 2 will be going out after i get the IMs back, call it a test case.

I think just about any place you're going to have to send it in and ARS is well known and trusted, simple process they get you a quote fast, and get the lighter back to you in 2-3 weeks depending on how busy they are. They wanted $45 to redo an IM Old Boy, seals, tank, the works. With what I paid for my St DuPont it would be worth 200 (totally pulling that number outta thin air) or whatever they get for refurbishing them. Good investment and I love my lighter, just doesn't hold gas anymore, it's gotta be over 20 yrs since i bought it.
Can you tell me a little more about the pipe flame nozzle. I have a couple of Ligne 1 lighters and would be interested in converting them to pipe flame.
It’s awesome. Comes out at a sideways angle that’s perfect for lighting a pipe when you’re holding the lighter sideways. Highly recommended for a dedicated pipe lighter.
I own both originals and the knockoffs. The later are more reliable than the former, so maybe I need to send the originals off to you!
It's an early Line1 Short. It's gold-plated, but it is the thicker 20 micron plating which they refer to as gold-filled. The regular gold plated units have 16 micron thick plating. Should date back to the early '60s.
You should be able to find them available for the later Line1 units with the barrel-style flame adjuster. I was buying a dozen at a time so I could find ones that clocked where I wanted them to when fully tightened, to create "lefty", "righty", & "ambi" options. (The threads on the nozzles & the lighters don't always start at the same places. ) Now they are harder to find & my last order took two years to show up. The early style Line1s never had the Pipe-Flame nozzles, so if you have those, then they aren't available.
I have a couple of Ligne 1s, and I replaced the burners with pipe flame burners from Ebay (China). It's very easily done. The only problem is that when the replacement burners are fully screwed in, the orifices are not pointing straight forward, but are aimed at the front corner of the lighters. This doesn't really cause any problem with lighting my pipes. I suppose some kind of small spacer would fix that, but I don't have anything that would fill that bill. Nevertheless, I love the Ligne 1s.
I also have a Ligne 2 (on the right), and I agree that the flame adjustment is a little troublesome, as it takes two hands. But the beautiful ringing sound when you open the lighter is something special.

I have a question for you Dupont people, and @EA-6B. The screw on my ping plate constantly loosens. So much so that i basically have a small screwdriver to tighten it up. What does the ping sound like if i just removed the plate? Im not sure how i can secure it withoout taking the hing off with a light locktite type material.
Anyone know what happened to @EA-6B ? I was hoping he was going to be a long time resident around here for Duponts...

Nice! Silver-plated waffle pattern L1s are a top favorite of mine. I found that when I bought about a dozen pipe nozzles at a time, I've eventually found a lighter for each one where it will clock where I want it to when tightened. The threads don't start at the same spot on the lighters nor the nozzles! Spacers won't work really well because the seats of the nozzle & lighter are beveled. Some suggest to loosen it back to where you want it, but the nozzle is also the front 'head bolt', & it's better to have it tightened down. The L2 nozzles press in, so you could put that one down wherever you want.
The lid resonates, removal of the beauty plate doesn't affect the ping.
If it's loose, you should be able to move the screw out of the way, get some blue locktite in the screwhole with a pin, & then get the screw back in there & tightened, without removing the lid.

If the screw of that plate inside the lid comes out and you lose the plate, like i did on my gold and black enamel Ligne 2, you can buy both the gold and silver ones on eBay for like $12. I still need to get mine serviced, been too long!
Hey folks, I've been on an epic computer repair & upgrade journey over the past couple or three weeks already, finally reached stability (I think) over the past couple days. Couple folks have been asking about buying refreshed Duponts from me, & really it'll be up to the boss if I can post them here for sale or not, & I'll have to ask him about it at some point, possibly in the near future. I'm not geared up right now to get anything ready anyway, but I do have a handful that I plan to prepare at some point in the future, & maybe I'll be able to post them here. 
That works in a pinch. I tried one of those kits to get the screw. It was a big square-shouldered deal & bothered me personally. If it doesn't bother you, that's fine, because it will work technically. I actually ended up using a screw from an Iphone, which ended up more flush. But it still doesn't look as good as a stock screw there. Also I don't think that the silver knock-off beauty plate kit that I tried is actually silver plated, but chrome plated. I've experimented with knock-off L2 parts. A couple things are ok/useful, many won't work. Knock-off valve bodies won't work because the threads don't match. However you can grab the semi-permeable membrane out of it in a pinch, if you need one. But it is pretty crap, & definitely not as good as the stock fiber disc sandwich. My daily L2 has that, & it kind of sucks. Knock-off D-ring flame adjusters won't work because the splined fitting isn't sized properly (too big, ends up skipping) & also made of plastic, unlike the stock part which is one piece of metal. I forget if the actual screw fits or not, but I think it might not thread to a stock adjustment valve. However, if the d-ring itself is broken/ missing, you can de-pin the d-ring out of the knock-off, & install it on a stock main part, & that will work. I also have that on my L2. It's a daily catch-all with some worn/ experimental parts on it.
The "gold" plate is inside the cap and no one looks in there so you know eff it, it bugged me more that here was nothing in there and i looked just for that reason.
As far as refurbishing there is no way i would use knock off chinese parts, I think i paid about 900 bucks for this lighter new and that was decades ago and even though it shows a fair amount of wear that's only because i used and enjoyed it everyday. I will send it out to ARS eventually ... one of those days ... some time ... lol
I hear you bro. As far as knock-off parts, I bought one knock-off L2 to see what they were made of, & there's not much there that I'd want to use, & a lot of the stuff doesn't swap over very well or at all due to poor fitment, cheap materials, mismatched threads, etc. I went & checked the knock-off screw that holds on the flame adjuster to see why I didn't like them, & it does thread in to my authentic lighter, but it stands proud of the adjuster & I can feel the edge scratching my finger & pocket, & that's what I couldn't remember that I don't like about it, & why I wouldn't use it. If it fit flush, I'd probably use it. But the D-ring swap is useful & works pretty well. Also if you lose a fill-cap, the knock-offs do thread in. I have one of those on my pocket banger too. Of course the plating is chrome instead of silver, but it works & is easy to swap back to an authentic one if I ever get a spare. But a lot of the stuff internally on the knock-off is not up to snuff or simply doesn't fit. Certain parts made of ferric steel instead of stainless, unfinished edges, lame felt semi-permeable membrane in the regulator instead of the fiber disc sandwich, etc etc...
