Thank you for correcting me. At the Altinay site I saw a similar pipe that was called calabash so... I did not know of the name Topkapi for these pipes. I am learning about pipes every day here.

A good smoke.
I'm 3 smokes in on this pipe and I think I "might" be seeing some colouring around the shank already. Unless I'm imagining things, lol. I'll try to take a picture in the same position and lighting as the first unsmoked pic when I get home.Handsome pipe

Hello All, I recently picked up this Meer at an estate sale. Paid $20 CAD as it was bundled with all sorts of other stuff and not really noticeable! It has no case or markings of any kind, but the workmanship seems pretty amazing. How can you assess the value or manufacturer of this kind of pipe? Seems like there are so many out there. Help pls!
Many carvers turn out figural pipes like that, usually the more well known carvers will have their name on them, doesn't make it any better or any worse just easy to identify. I'm not the guy to put a value on it other than you got a good deal, 50-100 bucks seems about right, look at some of the pipes on SPC (www.smokingpipes.com) under meerschaum to get a better idea of value. Just so you know the master carvers sign their pipes and they will go for more money than unsigned.
Very nice pipe and meers are a personal favorite of mine in general, im thinking it will be a very good smoker.
Scary pipe because it says ... BOO~ lol actually looks like 68 or 89 if they held it upside down to write on it.
Only the second bowl in my Altinok commission - why is this not coloring? 
I'm a neophyte re. meerschaums. I got this pipe as part of a lot, and I'm curious about several things: 1. Is the stem likely also meerschaum? 2. Is the tenon bone? 3. What might the ballpark date be (e.g. first half of 20th century, etc)? I'll appreciate any help you all can give.

I don't think I've ever heard of a stem being made of meerschaum...would be rather uncomfortable. I'm guessing from the pic it's acrylic. I don't know how to tell from the pic if the tenon is bone, but someone here can probably answer that. The shank doesn't appear to be threaded? Maybe the inserts missing? No clue as to the age.
The picture is not clear, but the shank is threaded and the stem fits well. Makes sense that stem would be acrylic and not meerschaum.
I love this face! I have no idea who carved it, or its age. Obviously, a replacement stem, and a really nice job at that. Good smoker.
That is one awesome pipe. Never seen anything close to it.
