    Orangutan heals its wound

I found this absolutely fascinating. I love orangutans, I really wonder if they've ever exhibited this behaviour before (other great apes have in the past). https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-68942123

    Trionfo Pipe

Has anyone ever come across the brand Trionfo? Stamping reads Trionfo over Super Radica, other side reads SCORTA 1920. Interesting stinger, horn stem. I love the shape, never come across the brand before, but I think this is a 1920s or 1930s Italian pipe. I bought it from Germany about 5 years ago.

    BBB Unbreakable Meerschaum

Here's a new one to me, a BBB Unbreakable Meerschaum, hallmarked by Hollins & Jacques in 1889. Unfortunately it's not in amazing condition and has a replacement stem, but I bought it for next to nothing out of curiosity. I think I've seen something similar before, but have struggled to find any...

    'Churchill's' pipes

@RustiePyles CPG recently did a wonderful job re-stemming a Barling-banded BBB for me (in the 'Show Us Your Barlings' thread). While he had it, I found a cheap Churchill's stummel in the States and he agreed to re-stem that one too (and again, did a brilliant job). I've always wanted a...

    Large Murray's era collection

@simong and I just got this fairly large collection of Murray's era Dunhill tins (with a couple of others). I think I speak for both of us when I say I look forward to smoking my way through this lot!

    Pathé Video about Snuff

Edit: To clarify. Original, "Pathé Snuff video" too easily misconstrued. I thought I'd seen most of the British Pathé tobacco-related videos, but this one must have passed me by. Not sure how I feel about 'organised snuff parties' though...

    G. W. Sims

I just wanted to show off my latest Facebook Marketplace find - a G. W. Sims sandblasted plateau-top. I don't usually go in for this style of pipe, but this one caught my eye: the blast is wonderful. It's also pretty big. Although I only know limited information about Sims, he seems to have been...

    Ropp catalogue

Another catalogue, although sadly this appears to only be 10 pages from a longer catalogue. It covers their 'Serie Anglaise' and 'the Yeco'. Hopefully this is of some interest. I would guess the approximate age is 1910-1930, but I haven't had time to look into it properly (from a cursory look...

    1970s Astley's catalogue

For anyone interested, this Astley's catalogue has just been uploaded to Pipedia. It's from between 1971 (company name change - thanks @jguss ) and 1979 (MasterCard name change). It's similar to the one that was already on the Pipedia page, but includes some Danish-style pipes.

    Murray's Mellow Mixture

@simong and I shared some Murray's Mellow Mixture at the UK pipe show. Unfortunately it was a bit dry, but kept some of it's quality. I will attempt to rehydrate this tin and see what happens, I only have one sealed tin left and then that will be it unless I can find more. We also shared some...

    Proposed UK NZ-style legislation

Some of you in the UK might be interested in this article from the Spectator written by Winston Marshall in favour of cigars, in response to the proposed legislation to have a rolling ban for smoking in the style of New Zealand. Although history seems to march inexorably onwards away from...

    Fryer's & Co.

Just picked up this sealed tin for 4 quid. Wondering if anyone has ever come across it before. Quite a lot of surface corrosion, but seems to still be sealed.

    Balkan Sobranie tin

An amazing Facebook marketplace find - a still sealed cutter top tin of Balkan Sobranie. I was wondering if anyone could help with the age - it still has the address for Albert Weinberg rather than Sobranie Ltd.

    Nature in the city

I live in a city which is fairly small, but I live close to the centre, so I never expected what happened yesterday. I was sitting at my kitchen table doing some work and smoking some Sun Bear (just to keep it slightly tobacco related) when I heard loud scrabbling on the roof. Before I knew what...

    Sublime Tobacco - Compton Mackenzie

From a cursory glance I can see this book has been discussed on the forum before, so this might interest/amuse some of you. Compton Mackenzie also wrote Whisky Galore, for those who know the Ealing comedies. Anyway, having never read it I thought I'd pick up a copy from the online Oxfam shop -...

    Pipe identification

This came in a job lot a few years ago, and I just pulled it out to restore it. I can't work out what it is - I don't think it's a fake Dunhill attempt as there's no name stamping on the stummel, and the dot is too close to the stummel. The sandblast is actually quite nice, the stem is fairly...

    "Briaklay" pipe

I thought this might interest some forum members: About a year and a half ago I bought a pipe collection from a man who sadly passed away. I was unable to ask him any questions about his collection as his wife completed the sale. When the box arrived, it contained lots of interesting and...

    Cacao as a Pipe Wood?

I've recently been on a tour of a chocolate factory in Ecuador, and as fruit woods are often the best woods for pipes, I was wondering if anyone had ever heard of a pipe made of cacao wood? I appreciate that there aren't a huge number of pipe makers in the tropics, but possibly someone has tried...

    British pipe catalogues

I've just received these pamphlets that I thought might interest some of you. They came from the house of a man who had stacks of papers and books relating to tobacco, but didn't smoke himself! If anyone wants further pictures or scans, please ask.

    Merryman London made pipe

I got this pipe recently along with a couple of others that I wanted. I wasn't expecting much, but underneath the dirt it has a lovely deep blast, and it's very lightly smoked. Try as I might, I can't find any information about it. I wonder if it's a Sasieni second, purely based on the font and...
